Definition from the CLIS Website:
The College of Information Studies at the University of Maryland at College Park provides an electronic discussion group for students, faculty, staff, and alumni. The purpose of the CLIS discussion group is to provide a way for all of us to interact electronically and exchange information and ideas. Topics can include informal articles, questions and requests for information, notes about special events, announcements about job opportunities, for-sale advertisements, and on-going discussions about library and information science issues.
This CLISlist is a great resource for finding out information about what's going on at CLIS, what's going on in the area, and what's going on. People have posted information pertaining to the following:
- Announcements about CLIS people in the news
- Jobs available at the University, in the DC area, and across the country
- Information about scholarships
- Career-related seminars
- Where to find a local doctor
- Roommate searches
- Apartment announcements
- GA and hourly positions that are available
- University events
- Interesting tidbits about anything information related
- And much, much more!
It should be noted that CLISlist is different than ATCLIS, which is the College's official way of communicating with students. Information about current classes and College-sponsored events often goes out on ATCLIS and not CLISlist, though sometimes it goes out on one and then the other, or vice versa (are you confused?).
BE WARNED: CLISlist is has a public archives. While the list is not public, it's archives are. Translation, if you send something to CLISlist and then Google yourself, you'll find your email message is now publicly available to everyone...everywhere.
