Lucy grew up in a middle class family, loved by her parents. She led a happy life until the age of fifteen. About half a year after her fifteenth birthday, she began to behave oddly. Her schoolwork declined massively, she lost her friends and she developed insomnia. Her parents would occasionally see her talking to herself. Her moods became unpredictable and often violent. They didn't know it, but she would often sneak off to watch fires, sometimes making small blazes of her own.
Lucy's parents were worried. They took her to see a psychiatrist. She was diagnosed with Schizoaffective disorder and, later, pyromania. She was given a cocktail of drugs which, for several years, turned her into a near model citizen, if still a little odd. Eventually, she left home to go to college. Lucy enjoyed the relative freedoms she experienced here, but this freedom made her lax. She took her medication less, and the symptooms of her disorder crept back. She became convinced that the medication she was being fed was slowly killing her, and she began hiding or destroying her pills instead of swallowing them. 
Lucy began burning things. Most of the time they were small fires, merely boxes in alleyways, or small piles of sticks, but one day she broke into her college and set alight the classroom of one of her most despised teachers. Although the fire was quickly contained and extinguished, it was large enough for an investigation to be carried out. the moment Luz heard they knew it was arson, she ran. By some miracle, she escaped the clutches of the Enforcers. For a couple of months, Luz slept rough. During this time, she wove an intricate story, part fact and part delusion, about the oppressive nature of the Corporation, its involvement with aliens and the things it did to the ordinary people. Her frequent contact with Offenders certainly didn't help matters.
Then she realised. they were inside her head. Not metaphorically, but literally. That chip was evil. What she knew, it knew. And what it knew, they knew. It had to go. Luz was told of a surgeon who had lost his license years ago, now living in the wastelands. His price was high, but he could remove or modify chips. Luz knew that he was her only chance for salvation. She had to get the money. A spate of burglaries and muggings commenced, one of Luz's only means of getting funds. She also sold her body several times. That proved more prifitable than theft, though it had its own price, making her already damaged psyche that little bit more unstable.
Eventually, she had enough money, and was taken to see the surgeon. She had the operation and was finally free of the evil chip. It was gone, and with it the Corporation's hold on her. She was free. But still, she went back to the city. It had been her home her entire life, she knew how to stay hidden and there was so much to see and burn there.

As a result of her condition, Luz has Eisoptrophobia (fear of mirrors), and will attempt to break them if she can. If not, she will hurry past them with her eyes averted.

<br> The shop was empty, closed for the night. Well, nearly empty anyway. There was one person inside. Luz shoved several packets of insta-heat seafood rice into her backpack before grabbing a candy bar, tearing it open and eating the delicious treat. Luz went to a different aisle and put several bottles of cleaning fluid into her trolley. She unscrewed them one after the other and traversed the shop, pouring the liquid over the floor, over the racks of goods and over the counters. Soon, she only had a little left in one bottle. She abandoned the trolley and went back to the fire exit she'd broken in through. 
Luz giggled at the irony. Now it was a fire entrance! She grabbed a shirt from a rack on the way out and wrapped it round its coat hanger before soaking the thing with the last of the cleaning fluid. Just outside the exit, Luz took a lighter from her pocket and ignited the improvised torch. She threw it through the open doorway and ran. Behind her, the torch hit the floor and with a Fwoomph! the liquid caught. Luz quickly made it back to her hiding place atop a building across the street, where she watched the inferno gleefully. Fire trucks soon arrived and their flashing lights added to her bliss. Just audible under the wailing sirens and crackling flames was the sweet melody of a piano, and shadowy figures moved around her in the darkness, congratulating her on bringing the pretty light.
