OT Views
Yuri has defined himself as a 'Civil Atheist'. In contrast to more agressive Godless folks, who seek to drive back religion at any turn, Yuri is content to merely keep them out of his life, and from interfering with others. He has no problem with others holding religious beleifs, so long as they approach them with a rational mindset.
Politically, he places himself to the left of the political spectrum, but is much in favour of more developed and varied political stances, rather than Polarizing Left/Right systems. He disapproves of extremism in any line of belief, seeing anyone who takes their views to be inerrant to be fools. He is opposed to doublespeak in business and politics, and hates when new political buzz words pass into common use.
Hobbies and Interests
Absurdism
- Yuri is a fan of absurd and surreal humour. He finds great enjoyment in things which don't quite make sense, and appear at random, but still prefers them to have some bit of coherence or internal logic to them. Various objects or themes which tend to come up again and again include: Bears, Steam Power, Eyebeams, The British Empire, Gypsies, and the occult.
He is currenty fixated on the concept of an "Armoured Bear Fighting League", in which a poorly equipped human must fight to the Death with an armoured Bear.
Science Fiction
- Yuri is an avid watcher of the Stargate Franchise, reader of Victorian Sci-Fi, and lurker of Science Fiction forums.
Art
- After a long history of sketching odd and humourous things, Yuri finally acquired a Drawing Tablet in December of 2006. This allowed him to easily draw things on his PC, in a more clean and natural way. He is currently developing an Idea for a Webcomic, entitled "Quibbles". In order to gain additional practice, Yuri intends to join DYOS
