Evolution
Over the years there have been many attempts at artificialy improving humans through artificial implants. The human lifespan have always been limited by the longevity of internal organs, as they degrade over time. In some early cases, organs were replaced by those of animal donors. Then, when technology improved, artificial biological or mechanical replacements became available. In some cases, there were attempts at improving other biological functions. Damaged limbs could be replaced entirely and brain-functions were enhanced with computer chips. Of course, all these modifications were done to individual humans and never became part of human evolution. In periods where there were technological setbacks, due to ecological disasters, the science of cybernetics was forgotten. Then, after the return of the Neom population, new attempts were made at developing cybernetic implants.
Description
Some of those who have cybernetic implants are indistinguishable from others of their kind. Those who have more major external enhancements, can be more easily singled out.
Relations with other races
Cyborgs do not have separate societies and cultures of their own, but often keep the natural position in their societies that they had prior to aquiering cybernetic implants. In some societies, cyborgs are considered less human than those without, and there can therefore be a social stigma attached to them. Neoms in particular think of cyborgs as inferior beings, but see the use in applying them to their human or [wark] workers or soldiers.
Racial features
There are a many different cybernetic implants, that provide a variety of features for the creatures that have them. In a way, cybernetic implants are much like equipment, in that they come with a monetary cost and a benefit of some kind.
