As to where the sales training function should lay on a company organization chart this really is an intriguing question, which begs the question about corporate attitudes to trained in general. Companies in this country have been criticized for not taking education seriously enough. Specifically, the buck stops at the top - the Sales and Marketing Director, if there is one, the Leader if there is not.?The government has become increasingly associated with promoting education and instruction at all levels. At that time of writing its heavily promoting leadership training and there are an amount of scholarships open to businesses planning to specifically boost their management - and this will include sales management. Continued education remains the responsibility of line management, but responsibility lies also with the individual. To encourage individual responsibility a system have been developed by some organizations whereby the individual sets out their own training programme. They are the so called Learning Businesses. In some cases it has given management the reason to abdicate responsibility for training. This tendency must be reversed.??
