Count D is the name of a very effeminate young man known to open up a rather odd petshop in Chinatowns across the States. Though he's not entirely human himself - he is of a species who are reborn after death and thus have no need of the normal means of reproduction. The species only consists of his grandfather, his father, and himself, as the rest were murdered by humans in the distant past. (I think there's three of them because of something involving petri dishes and potential cloning techniques.)
Anyway! Count D would sell customers very unique pets (ie mythical creatures), which oftentimes turned out to have disastrous results. These pets would actually have "human forms" which only a sensitive person/a person disconnected to the real world (or someone who inhaled some of Count D's special incense) could see. There was also a cop working for the NYPD who was convinced that everything that happened in Chinatown had its root at Count D's shop, so he hung around a lot and wound up becoming somewhat friendly with the Count. So after a whole bunch of bits involving various pets, various weirdass crimes around Chinatown, and the attempt by D's father to kill all of humanity with some sort of supervirus, D closed his petshop and left to reopen it someplace else.
In Purgatory
Upon his arrival in Purgatory, D was utterly appalled by the lack of a Chinatown district, though that didn't stop him from setting up shop in a building that seems quite a lot larger inside than it does outside. Count D's Petshop is open and ready for business - it's probably not long before the rumors start up again. :D
