Therlion's Reticence
From Caelwiki
- [19:27] * Adam reaches under his shirt, lifting it slightly, revealing a strap circling his abdomen. Hanging from it are multiple sheets of faded yellow parchment, scrawled over in symbols.
- [19:27] Adam: These are what Runeweapons look like when they're innactive.
- [19:27] Lkeas: Parchment?
- [19:28] * Adam reaches down and plucks off a sheet. As his hand draws away, the now torn sheet seems to fold, writhing and tearing. Flakes of paper fall away, and in his hand rests a small yellow and green dagger.
- [19:29] Rif: Hm, simple attire. Those symbols seem to be a trigger though. A couple seem familiar, but I'm surprised I can't depict more. So old...okay, that was impressive.
- [19:29] Rif: Do all of those sheets make a dagger similar to that?
- [19:30] Adam: No.
- [19:30] Kazuma: fancy
- [19:30] * Adam lets go of the dagger. As it drops, it seems to evaporate. There is nothing left to hit the floor. He reaches down and grabs another sheet.
- [19:31] * Kazuma pulls out his bo-staff, "I'm happy with this"
- [19:31] * Adam tears off the second sheet. This time, it seems to elongate, a ripping noise filling the air. His hand comes away with an unstrung bow.
- [19:31] Kazuma: where's the string??
- [19:31] * Adam taps another sheet, next to where the bow's paper was. "Here." He indicates several others. "These are the arrows."
- [19:32] Adam: The Jester wishes to craft a set for you, Lkeas, if you'll permit him.
- [19:32] Rif: Hm, so a limit as to how many you can use. It seems one would be fine until the person ran out of sheets.
- [19:33] Lkeas: It's certainly a very generous offer...
- [19:33] * Adam waits expectantly.
- [19:36] Rif: You should take it. One sword can be bashed away. That however...people can train you in its aspects.
- [19:36] * Lkeas sighs and shakes her head. "I'll have to think about it, Adam. As it is I barely have enough time to keep up my Archiving..."
- [19:37] Kazuma: ay soon you'll need an assistant
- [19:38] * Lkeas stands and smiles. "You all are very kind, though. That's what I love about you. I have to get going for the evening, but I'll return tomorrow."
- [19:38] * Rif shakes his head, "Lkeas, you aren't very safe if they get you alone. You should find someone to take over Archiving for a while and you could train.
- [19:39] * Adam sighs. "Please, Lkeas?"
- [19:39] Adam: He's concerned for you.
- [19:39] Adam: And that frightens me.
- [19:39] Adam: There's not much that can worry him.
- [19:39] Adam: It wouldn't take but a minute...
- [19:39] Rif: Does he know something more concerning Lkeas' fate?
- [19:40] Damsel: "You believe that a blade or bow, even if enchanted, can impart great skill of years of training? Because if it comes down to a fight, that's what we're going to face. Training now will not make much of a difference."
- [19:41] * Adam jumps at the sound of Damsel's biting words. His face's attempts to turn itself red redouble.
- [19:41] Adam: I...well, we just...
- [19:41] * Lkeas nods. "That's true... considering how long it took with Brink just to channel enough energy to create a small candleflame... I doubt I'd become a very skilled fighter in a short time.."
- [19:41] Damsel: "Strength of arms is probably the least of our assets in this fight."
- [19:42] Rif: No Damsel, but all the parchments in the world won't save Lkeas from a hungry beast. Even a lucky stroke with a dagger could make all the difference.
- [19:42] * Adam blinks rapidly, repeatedly wetting his lips as he listens to Damsel tearing his proposal to shreds.
- [19:43] Damsel: "Sometimes one has to give up on one weapon in order to best learn another. Just because you do not see intellegence and knowledge as such a weapon, does not mean it can not be used as such."
- [19:43] * Adam turns to regard Damsel, the fire in his face slowly being replaced with fire in his eyes.
- [19:44] Adam: Yes...the Jester had several choice things to say about you. I see that he was right...
- [19:44] * Lkeas walks over to Adam and places a hand on his shoulder. "I really appreciate it, I do. You know, my greatest weapons have always been my friends... and this is a group effort. We have fighters here, that is their strength. They have protected me in the past, and I trust them implicitly."
- [19:44] Damsel: "You disagree with my logic?"
- [19:44] Rif: Oh, it very well could be. However...what will protect her as a Brihaldo stares her in the face.
- [19:45] Damsel: "A sword will not defeat the Cold... but wisdom and courage and devotion... those might have a chance."
- [19:45] * Adam looks at Lkeas, staring up into her face. "After all the success we've had in this venture, one might think a change of tactics would be in order."
- [19:45] Adam: The problem is, we're not players in this game. We're pieces on the board.
- [19:46] * Lkeas frowns. "I have to say I agree with Damsel on this one, though. No weapon is useful against The Cold."
- [19:46] Adam: We need leverage. Knowledge isn't giving that us. Just...think on it.
- [19:46] Lkeas: In fact, it may turn out to work against us if we are manipulated to use our weapons on each other.
- [19:46] Damsel: "Leverage? You think *weapons* give us leverage?"
- [19:46] * Lkeas shivers. "Remember what happened to David Viara..."
- [19:46] Rif: In a true battle, we are a small group. The fighters will be overwhelmed as is. One diving in front of her makes them good as dead. I'm not saying we should turn from our knowledge, but at least owning a weapon could come to aid.
- [19:47] * Adam shakes his head at Rif. "In a true battle, we'd all die."
- [19:48] Adam: What we need to be prepared for are skirmishes with a single foe, or maybe two or three.
- [19:48] Damsel: "If you are so set in a novice having a weapon, there are better ones that could be had than those simply disguised as paper."
- [19:49] * Adam shrugs, his face twisting and his voice taking on a tone of disgust. "But what do I know, after all? I'm merely a child, never mind that I've grown up around some of the most skilled battle-magi of my world."
- [19:49] * Rif sighs and looks at Adam, "Very true. It'd be an Alamo at tops with luck. Yes, a couple to fight..."
- [19:50] Damsel: "Well you certainly seem to know how to find your temper when confronted with a cool discussion of logic."
- [19:50] * Lkeas shudders again. "Please... don't fight over me. I know you all come from different places and have different ideas of how to protect each other... don't fight over how to do such a thing..."
- [19:50] * Dale|Sleep yawns. "It's not that we're not properly trained in our own areas of combat... It's that the force we're up against is immensly powerful. I mean, I'd like to see you take on someone like Ryuusei, or Diviara."
- [19:50] Rif: Damsel, those things are far from a let down. That is fine enchantment and quite a fine piece.
- [19:51] * Adam calmly removes Lkeas's hand from his shoulder, turning to face Damsel head-on. "I care nothing for your arguments. What I care for is your suggestions. Of which you have precisely none."
- [19:51] Adam: You have contributed nothing useful to this discussion, and are now only seeking to inflame me, God alone knows why.
- [19:51] Damsel: "You simply have not asked for my suggestions. Rather you have taken offense right from the start."
- [19:51] * Lkeas drops her head, fingering one of the parchments in her satchel.
- [19:51] Lkeas: :[17:54] * David fires the gun at point blank range
- [19:51] Rif: Ok, the cold would be quite unfortunate. However, what if we are not confronted with the Cold?
- [19:51] Lkeas: Gods...
- [19:51] Dale|Sleep: We will be.
- [19:51] Dale|Sleep: That's just it.
- [19:51] Dale|Sleep: Ryuusei WILL use The Cold.
- [19:52] Dale|Sleep: He is not afraid, and has done so in the past.
- [19:52] Rif: I don't think Ryuusei will be our first fight.'
- [19:52] * Adam sighs, and puts a hand to his face, taking deep, frame-wracking breaths.
- [19:52] Dale|Sleep: He will be one of them. One of the most important.
- [19:52] * Lkeas heads towards the door. "I think I just need... some fresh air..."
- [19:52] Dale|Sleep: Of that you can be assured.
- [22:05] <Rif> Lkeas however, she at least needs to be taught how to use the saber weighted weapon she now holds. Even if its just the basics.
- [22:05] <Damsel> "I do not think that would likely benefit her in the slightest."
- [22:06] <Adam> Lkeas can't be taught. I told you already, nobody competent with a sword can instruct her in wielding a blade with no weight.
- [22:06] <Adam> She needs to invent her own forms, her own stances...
- [22:06] <Adam> In short, she's in trouble.
- [22:07] * Adam frowns thoughtfully. "Maybe we could find a Barghast to instruct her..."
- [22:07] <Mariel> Psh.
- [22:07] * Rif looks at Adam, "You are thinking heavier swords. One who has trained with bamboo or a thin saber would be vaguely close.
- [22:07] <Mariel> A clear lack of talent on your part.
- [22:08] * Adam jumps. "Who the heck..."
- [22:08] <Mariel> Any of the acolytes of the temple of Strongarm could teach the use of weightless blades
- [22:08] * Damsel chuckles lightly. "Welcome return to you."
- [22:08] <Rif> Adam, this is Mariel. The voice anyways.
- [22:08] <Adam> The Caelestian God of Chaos?
- [22:08] <Mariel> Indeed some of their weapons are enchanted so thoroughly that they counter not only the blades weight but that of the wearers armor as well...
- [22:09] <Mariel> Clearly Lkeas needs training from someone capable of both magic and weaponry
- [22:09] <Damsel> "There was something close to that on Lore as well. A champion of earth from the elemental championships had a weapon that drastically reduced the weight of both blade and armor."
- [22:09] <Mariel> Clearly that person is not you
- [22:09] <Mariel> I however can make arrangements
- [22:10] <Rif> Fascinating, I'd like to travel there one day. I'm not much for things beyond elemental magic and fists, but that...
- [22:10] <Mariel> That is assuming she wants to do such a thing
- [22:10] <Rif> There might be your problem.
- [22:10] <Mariel> Unfortunately until recently she has shown an inability to speak her mind about anything
- [22:10] * Adam speaks tentatively. "She needs to be able to protect herself."
- [22:10] <Mariel> Considering her title that is a most unfortunate trait
- [22:11] <Rif> A mute prophet...indeed.
- [22:11] <Mariel> I am personally more concerned with the implied investment
- [22:11] <Mariel> That is the pragmatist in me
- [22:11] <Adam> Mariel, may I ask a question...?
- [22:12] <Rif> ((I swear you help me on my AP English Essay in the vocab section))
- [22:12] <Mariel> You just did.
- [22:12] * Damsel smiles slightly.
- [22:12] * Adam blinks, slightly startled.
- [22:12] <Adam> Well, yes but...
- [22:12] <Mariel> You clearly have the capacity. As for the permission. Anyone may ask a question. This however offers no promise of answers.
- [22:13] <Adam> Well, then, if I may be so bold, why do you give a rat's ass? We're Falerin's "pets", after all.
- [22:13] <Mariel> That should be apparent.
- [22:13] <Mariel> Think harder.
- [22:13] <Mariel> Now you will have to excuse me
- [22:14] * Adam frowns. "Sure..."
- [22:14] * Mariel falls silent
- [22:15] <>Ambiance<> A man appears dressed in quiet pale grey robes with multicolored tassels. His eyes are a pale blue-green but seem to shift between several near shades rapdily as he stands there.
- [22:15] * Man I can perhaps offer explanations into the reasoning of the Farpoint in this matter.
- [22:15] * Adam looks at Rif. "Who's this?"
- [22:16] * Man I have something of a unique perspective on their activities.
- [22:16] <Adam> Please, do tell...
- [22:16] * Damsel frowns deeply.
- [22:17] * Rif whips his head around and studies the man, "Sorry...honestly, I really do not recognize him in the slightest."
- [22:17] * Man I am a forgettable sort at times....
- [22:17] * Man For those who know not how to see me
- [22:17] * Damsel speaks quietly to Adam and Rif. "Be careful. This one appears to be none other than Tirlerion."
- [22:17] <Adam> I'm sure I wouldn't forget someone who appeared out of thin air, offering explanations for the actions of gods...
- [22:18] <Man> I am not he.
- [22:18] <Man> Though he is indeed me.
- [22:18] <Adam> Therlion?
- [22:18] <Man> Such is my name.
- [22:18] * Damsel considers for a moment, then nods her head. "I see."
- [22:18] <Man> Such has it always been.
- [22:18] <Man> I am the god of diversity.
- [22:18] <Adam> Demipower, isn't it?
- [22:19] <Damsel> "Pardon me for the mistake."
- [22:19] <Rif> That'd be a bit of change since I last saw him.
- [22:19] <Man> What is demi to whole is still infinite to the finite Adam
- [22:19] * Adam nods, seeming slightly bemused.
- [22:19] <Man> And my level of power was not actually altered by my change in station
- [22:20] <Man> I merely accepted and adopted a demotion
- [22:20] <Man> As a creator god I am not subject to the whims of faith that effect other deities
- [22:20] <Adam> I thought Falerin said that you gave up tons of power when you surrendered the portfolio of Creator...
- [22:20] <Man> Clearly that must be the case. Think logically.
- [22:20] <Man> Creators have to create when they have no worshipers to worship
- [22:21] <Man> They must therefore draw power from other sources as well
- [22:21] * Adam blinks, his eyes clearly bloodshot from lack of sleep. "Sorry, I'm not completely awake right now..."
- [22:21] <Therlion> and as for that. Yes.. I gave up Power... surely...
- [22:21] <Therlion> In one sense
- [22:22] <Rif> Hm, despite hearing of you, I do not believe we have met. Hm, power from other sources...you said you can explain the reasoning of Farpoint?
- [22:22] <Therlion> My political strength, my ability to act in certain capacities, my legal authority
- [22:22] <Therlion> In those senses I did indeed relinquish power
- [22:23] <Adam> Please, not to seem rude, but get to the point. You circle around your promised insights like a lone wolf around a healthy buck.
- [22:23] <Therlion> The farpoint has NEVER acted unilaterally
- [22:24] <Therlion> There have been since their inception literally ZERO instances of unilateral action on the part of even one of the farpoint deities
- [22:24] <Therlion> As for my digression. You do diservice to fault answers which you yourself prompted by your own inquiry.
- [22:25] <Therlion> To quote "Ask not what you do not wish to know"
- [22:25] <Therlion> There have been since their inception literally ZERO instances of unilateral action on the part of even one of the farpoint deities.
- [22:25] <Therlion> Falerin is no exception to that rule
- [22:25] <Therlion> Mariel has watched you repeatedly
- [22:25] <Rif> Hm, all with multiple sides and reasons.
- [22:25] <Therlion> Serian has become involved at least once
- [22:26] <Therlion> Eldron has been invovled as well
- [22:26] <Therlion> Why indeed would any of them be involved if you were "Falerin's"
- [22:26] <Rif> All for their different reasons...
- [22:26] <Therlion> While Eldron has been quick to point out that the culpability Falls on Falerin as the initiator.
- [22:27] <Therlion> You would not be in Caelestia at all at the moment given your grossly extraplanar natures and pursuits were it not for the fact that you are ALL of their interests
- [22:27] <Rif> He brought us here, started the cycle. They all came to make use for their own desires.
- [22:27] <Therlion> Indeed your very presence threatens their directive.
- [22:27] <Therlion> Your very presence invites a gods war
- '[22:28] <Therlion> if even one of them actively dissented to your presence
- [22:28] <Therlion> you would be gone
- [22:28] <Therlion> Falerin in fact demonstrated that once. He rejected your presence specifically to remove you from caelestia for a time.
- [22:28] <Therlion> The event is recorded in the Archives
- [22:29] <Therlion> You remain not because Falerin wants you here
- [22:29] <Therlion> You remain because they all do
- [22:29] <Therlion> They may have some variation in reasoning
- [22:29] *** Deathbringer has joined #darkabode
- [22:29] <Therlion> However they have at least some commonality as well
- [22:29] * Damsel frowns slightly. "That would mean that if Tirlerion did manage to reclaim Falerin's place, our status here would be in danger... though, in many reguards it already is, I suppose."
- [22:30] <Therlion> Presumably it is because you represent sensible resistance to a greater series of threats.
- [22:30] <Therlion> As to that Madam.
- [22:30] <Therlion> The danger of my son cannot be over stated
- [22:31] <Therlion> Tirlerion was my single biggest lapse in judgement and he is one that haunts us all
- [22:31] <Therlion> However. It may well be that it is your presence that impedes him for success at his goal
- [22:31] <Rif> Gone in an instant. One says no and its good bye Caelestia for us.
- [22:31] * Damsel nods slowly. "I understand... and it's our fault he has been released..."
- [22:32] <Therlion> The reasons why that may be shall have to be discovered in time...
- [22:32] <Therlion> However you shall have some more then you might expect. Given you other concerns I have intervened where Tirlerion is concerned
- [22:33] <Therlion> You see technically untill he is actually given some sort of portfolio he is still my avatar. One I cannot control in a general sense.
- [22:33] * Rif yawns, "Time for sleep again. It was good to meet you. And thanks." He walks out the abode and allows his eyes to shut, rocking back into his sleep.
- [22:33] <Therlion> However recently he was inconveniently disincorporated.
- [22:33] <Therlion> And he must draw from his source to reincorporate
- [22:34] <Therlion> And I am being a bit....
- [22:34] <Therlion> Reticent
- [22:34] *** Rif has left #darkabode
- [22:34] <Therlion> I cannot hold him off forever... but we only need a few years... perhaps even less
- [22:34] * Damsel smiles slightly. "Our thanks for such."
- [22:34] * Therlion smiles thinly
- [22:34] <Therlion> It is the least I could do
- [22:35] <Adam> How much of a toll does this act take on you?
- [22:35] <Therlion> It is also what Ardendor counted on.
- [22:35] <Therlion> A great deal of one. Tirlerion will continue to barage me from within until I relent.
- [22:35] <Therlion> unfortunately for him... I feel I could use a little nap.
- [22:35] * Adam frowns. "Then it seems that the Seekers owe you thanks..."
- [22:35] * Therlion chuckles...
- [22:36] <Therlion> Yes a little nap. It has been a while.
- [22:36] * Therlion vanishes
- [22:36] * Adam grins. "A nap sounds good right now, personally."
