Cracked TV

From Bubblegum Wiki

Cracked TV was an American sketch anime/live-action comedy television series. It licenses the name and logo of Cracked, but otherwise has no connection with the humor magazine. It was first broadcast on October 14, 2006. The one-hour show airs Saturday nights on Anime National and is in syndication on Coast-to-Coast TV. It was created by Bob Barker and Brendon Small. The series was originally produced by Barker/Small Productions and Casey Jones/David Gnome Entertainment (CDE) in association with Taylor Media Entertainment. Since Barker and Small began the series five weeks after Anime National's premiere(they are recently credited as "executive consultants"), the series has been handled by CDE and Taylor Media Stations Group.

On October 12, 2008, Taylor Media Entertainment announced that it would renew the show's license after its current season. However, David Gnome said that he would be auditioning new cast members for the show's next season, possibly from FUNimation's voice actors. On February 28, 2009, the series was permanently syndicated on Live Network TV, despite Gnome's promise that new episodes would be encore premiered in March 2009. In the show's place, Dog Show with Spike Spiegel was aired air, a program that would normally air 7 nights a week at 11 PM, following Super Happy Fun Time American Show.

New Season

In November 2008, the Defamer website reported that the 4th season of the series would be premiered on Anime National. Later that night, Taylor Media confirmed that the show is renewed for another season.

Format

Cracked TV is taped in front of an anime audience and consists of sketch anime/live-action comedy skits and J-Pop performances. Much of its live-action comedy parodies popular anime shows, movies, music, and covers typical economic and japanese cultural humor.

Legal controversy

On March 1, 2013, Anime National was sued by a consortium of network broadcasters who argued that it's prime-time show's title infringed their trademark. They sought a preliminary legal damage against the company.[16][17] On April 1, 2013, the federal appeals court upheld in favor for Cracked, finding that Anime National's late night title constitutes trademark infringement. The appeals court also affirmed the earlier district court decision that denied the broadcasters a preliminary legal damage against Anime National.[25] In response, News Corp's Chief Operating Officer Chase Carey stated that the company is contemplating taking show off the air and making it exclusive as a different title: "We need to be able to be fairly compensated for our content ... we apologize for stealing their trademark. We will rename the show and move it to a premium channel if that's our only recourse.

Complicating the issue is the fact that the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California granted an injunction against Aereo's rival FilmOn, a similar service. However, the district court's injunction is only legally binding in its jurisdiction (including the West Coast of the continental United States, Alaska and Hawaii) and is currently being appealed to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Other competitors have been blocked from providing service in Los Angeles and Seattle by similar injunctions.[29]

Then on November 17, 2013, the National Football League and Major League Baseball filed a joint Amicus brief to the Supreme Court, warning that sports programming would likely migrate from free TV to cable; and that Aereo may put the U.S. in violation of several international treaties that prohibit the retransmission of broadcast signals over the Internet without their copyright holder's consent.[31]

On January 10, 2014, Anime national agreed to end the show and move it to premium channel as a different show. [32] However, Due to numerous support from tweets, the show will remain on Anime National as Dumb TV.
