Thorley Wash this morning. One of those sobering moments when one realises just how much pressure sites like Thorley Wash are under these days. For a while this morning it was almost impossible to hear oneself think above the drone of aircraft; trains; a Network Rail Helicopter hovering over and around the Wash; road traffic; then a barge or two along the river; the Rowing Club members on a race; dog walkers; runners; children; and of course people like me trying to enjoy the Natural wonders. But in the quieter moments : A garden Warbler; a Blackcap; several C.Whitethroats and Sedge Warblers;several Chiffs and a couple of Wiilow Warblers; a Cuckoo; a Kestrel; a Water Rail screamed; a pair of Linnets (surprisingly uncommon here); several Reed Buntings. Butterflies represented by several Orange Tips; a few Green-veined Whites and Small White; a Holly Blue (my first for the year); and a Peacock or two. Stephen - if you read this - there is definitiely something to be said for a very early start!!
