What is breakcore?

What is breakcore? breakcore is the response the the vapidity of electronica, repetition and cliche of jungle and gabba, and the chinstroking wankery of IDM.
Good for your headphones or the dance floor. breakcore emphasizes creative deconstruction of breaks, along with non-standard, or sometimes (ALWAYS) tongue-in-cheek use of samples.
Breakcore is an aggressive style of music, much faster than typical electronic music, sometimes utilizing irregular time signatures. Hard kicks, distorted basslines, erratic and spastic drum breaks. Breakcore doesn't adhere to many compositional rules- it is more based on a set of ideas than any rigid structure, similar to jazz or punk music.
Mostly made on cheap or free software.

This breakcore wiki is for and about the current generation of breakcore, which is basically the wave of people who listened to the first wave of breakcore artists.
The current group of artists and labels are mostly defined by the large amount of artists coming out of the US. This generation of breakcore is currently underground, with a wide variety of cheap releases on many netlabels. This site aims to be a hub of information for both the breakcore listener as well as breakcore producers. As we all know, good breakcore resources are hard to come by.
