The year is 1889, and Captain Iphigenia McCannon is still in the employ of Her Majesty's Royal Air Force, attending to the (utterly useless) job of being Head of the Potential Space Travel Unit. However, a rather serious problem has arisen in this originally ridiculous division: The last known generator of cendium, the lightweight, alterable, and utterly flame-retardant gas that makes the Ziggurat fly, has gone missing. Not really believing that the cendium generator can be found, they dispatch Iffy and her crew to go find it. But they didn't count on her locating it - and its inventor, too. And they certainly didn't bank on her uncovering the vast space conspiracy hidden underneath the Air Force's illustrious ranks.
