The ship was originally a police vessel which was stolen in New York by the central characters to facilitate an excursion to San Francisco. The ship was named the Raptor overnight on the journey and the police markings were burned off by Fergus.
The ship was involved in an engagement with a small pirate fleet, which resulted in the capture of such ships as the Falcon and the Osprey and in the battle over San Francisco, where it engaged well over 50 ships with the assistance of the military and other ships controlled by the group such as the Falcon and the Osprey.
