In the 2002 general elections the MNR presented itself under the banner MNR-Nueva Alianza (MNR-NA). This alliance included: MBL, PS-1, VR-9, Eje Pachakuti, FREPAB, Poder Indio, and a number of independent candidates.

In 2002, the MNR won 11 of 27 seats to the Senate.
