Toa is a word meaning "Hero". A Toa is a being created when a Toa Stone is given to a Matoran and the Matoran takes it to a Toa Suva. The Toa are the Heroes of Matoran Societies. A Toa has control over one elemental Power:

When a Toa has completed his/her destiny, he can choose to either:

• Remain a Toa

or

• Give up his/her Toa Energy for the greater good and become a Turaga.
