- | Takuna led them away from Metru Nui to explore other islands, when Toa Akhmou stole some of his Matoran during the night. Takuna vowed to retrieve them, and set his Matoran forces on the move. Takuna led his forces into a battle between his forces and evil Matoran working for the Brotherhood of Makuta. Although Takuna's forces won, Takuna was captured by Akhmou and was about to be infected by the Makuta. At the last moment, Takuna discovered two of his mask powers, and used them to escape Akhmou. Over the course of the next few months, Akhmou's and Takuna's forces clashed over and over again, until Takuna decided to try to create an escape path through the Zone of Darkenss.

- | Realising that his Matoran could not last much longer against the overwhelming forces of the Makuta's armies, he told the Matoran to slowly retreat, and only defend themselves; then discovered the powers of the Olmak he had. He ordered his Matoran to stay behind while he scouted out this new area. He passed into this new dimension, then distinguished the gate. Almost immediately, he was plunged into complete darkness. He discovered another mask power there, too: his Ruru. A bright beam of light lit up the dark area, immediately drawing the attention of a dozen scorpion-like creatures. Realizing that he couldn't fight them all, he turned to run. Out of the darkness to his side, a brilliant gold glow scythed out into two of those creatures. The rest scattered in all directions, recognizing the blur of death. Takuna then saw the thrower - a bronze and white Toa. The Toa took him to a cave, where he told Takuna all about himself. Toa Cever of Light was killed by the Makuta. He was sent to live here by the Great Spirit himself. He led a group of Toa here, and they had an important job to do. Takuna was about to ask him what it was, when they were interrupted by a Toa of Fire with a gold Hau. He said that a Toa of Shadows had entered the Zone of Darkness, leaving the Portal open. Cever then rushed out of his cave, and sent a beam of light flashing out into the darkness to serve as a beacon to where the Portal was. Then, Takuna, Cever, and the Toa of Fire, whom Takuna found out to be Lhikan, rushed over there. Takuna saw Akhmou, fighting off those scorpions with his Staff of Shadows. Takuna channeled a blast of Plasma to hit his nemesis in the chest, when a massive beast leapt out of the portal still open behind Akhmou. "Too late," gasped a nearby Toa of Plasma. Takuna then was told that the reason all of these dead Toa were here was to prevent that deadly beast from escaping. It had, and would do its best to bring destruction to the world. Akhmou believed that the Brotherhood would be able to tame it, when an ancient Toa of Gravity told him that, the last time it had escaped, the Brotherhood was almost completely destroyed by it. The dead Toa could not leave the Zone of Darkness, so it was up to the live Toa to defeat them, creating a rough alliance between Toa of Shadow and Plasma. They worked together with their Matoran armies to bring it into a trap. Though they lured it in, there were heavy casualties to both armies: Takuna lost half of his, and all of Akhmou's fell. In its rampages across the world, it killed the seven Turaga of Metru Nui while they were meeting with the Rahaga. Finally, Takuna, Akhmou, all of the Toa Nuva, and the entire Toa Alliance focused their elemental abilities at the monstrous beast at the same time, burning through it at multiple points. At the end, a portal to the Zone of Darkness was opened to allow the dead Toa, including the Toa Hagah, Toa Metru, and Dume to add their powers as well. At the end, Cever gave Takuna some instructions, and also told him that he was the one who had sacrificed himself to make Takuna a Toa. Once all of the Toa had gone their respective ways, he turned, and saw the great beast gone! As he looked around, he saw Akhmou, using his Beselesk to give him the power of Gravity, floating the body away. "Makuta still needs a new body, and this will serve as an excellent addition to it." Cever told him to let Akhmou go, and that they would abttle another day...
