- | [20:39] Break Miyama: Greetings.
| |
| | | |
- | [20:41] Createdandmade: howdy, what's up?
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:41] Break Miyama: Not much. I'm merely....bored.
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:42] Createdandmade: so you talk to me when you're bored? therefore I entertain you? YAY!!!!
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:42] Break Miyama: >_> Well, think what you will.
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:42] Createdandmade: I normally do.
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:42] Break Miyama: Perhaps this may be interpreted as "I haven't much better things to do".
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:43] Createdandmade: but talking to me is still better than killing yourself. so YAY!!!
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:43] Break Miyama: o_)
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:43] Break Miyama: o_0
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:43] Break Miyama: Killing myself? I haven't a clue as to why I would do such a thing.
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:44] Createdandmade: hopefully you wouldn't
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:45] Break Miyama: It's an illogical and ultimately selfish act.
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:45] Createdandmade: that it is
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:46] Break Miyama: Akin to obsession or an inferiority complex.
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:46] Break Miyama: THe latter of which bothers me greatly, as I know someone who has such a complex to a great degree.
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:46] Break Miyama: Pardon if I am shoveling my thoughts upon you, but will you hear me out?
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:47] Createdandmade: of course
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:47] Break Miyama: To begin with, I'm sure you've heard of the college of UCLA, correct?
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:48] Createdandmade: yes
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:48] Break Miyama: A friend - and I use the term in a fairly loose sense - thinks that she will not get in.
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:49] Break Miyama: She has a GPA above 4.0, and scored well above 2200 on her practice SAT exam, which bodes well, seeing as her
| |
- | score will likely improve when she does take the actual exam.
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:50] Break Miyama: Of course, this is not my problem, but her attitude concerning the entire ordeal is simply pathetic and
| |
- | selfish.
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:50] Break Miyama: It annoys me greatly.
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:50] Createdandmade: have you told her that?
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:50] Break Miyama: Yes.
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:51] Break Miyama: Many times.
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:51] Break Miyama: She insists that she will not get into college with no less than a 2400 SAT score, and a
| |
- | four-point-god-knows-what GPA.
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:52] Break Miyama: Because she is Japanese, she also says that any affirmative action programs in place will decrease her chances
| |
- | of getting in, due to the already high amount of Asian students present.
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:53] Break Miyama: The attitude is obviously pathetic and unrealistic, but some explanation is required as to why I consider it
| |
- | selfish.
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:53] Break Miyama: That is, of course, disregarding the possibility that you may know why to begin with.
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:54] Createdandmade: it is disregarding that possibility isn't it?
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:55] Break Miyama: That depends. Do you know why such an attitude is selfish?
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:57] Createdandmade: I think it is selfish because then they are trying to get attention from others and are doing that by getting
| |
- | appaise from others, because they are telling her that she is wrong
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:57] Break Miyama: I'd agree were it not for the fact that she actually believes it.
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:58] Createdandmade: then why is it selfish?
| |
- |
| |
- | [20:59] Break Miyama: Because this attitude was conceived in utter ignorance of all else who apply for college.
| |
- |
| |
- | [21:00] Break Miyama: I, myself, am Asian. My SAT scores and GPA are well below hers.
| |
- |
| |
- | [21:00] Break Miyama: What is she effectively saying about my chances of ever making it to college?
| |
- |
| |
- | [21:01] Break Miyama: This sickening attitude of "poor me" ignores all those in much worse academic situations (though pretty much
| |
- | anything lower than her current standing may very well be considered a disaster to her).
| |
- |
| |
- | [21:02] Break Miyama: Why work yourself this much harder and have such a bloody ignorant concern over your acceptance to college when
| |
- | you have hit the academic ceiling of excellence?
| |
- |
| |
- | [21:03] Break Miyama: She goes to a well known, relatively prestigious and difficult ACADEMY, for the love of God, and she is
| |
- | attaining such grades.
| |
- |
| |
- | [21:03] Createdandmade: I understand now, have you told her that?
| |
- |
| |
- | [21:04] Break Miyama: Not to this much of a ranting degree.
| |
- |
| |
- | [21:04] Break Miyama: IT would be irrational on my own part to be angry over such a situation.
| |
- |
| |
- | [21:04] Break Miyama: But I have made it perfectly clear to her that I think she is being ignorant and selfish.
