Situation

Acton Scott lies in the rolling hills of the east side of the same valley as the Strettons, about 2kn SE of Little Stretton. A number of small streams flow by the east side of it, running off the south side of Ragleth hill - one of the hills that forms the ridgeline running along the SE side of the valley.

History

The Acton family have ownedland in this area since the 13th Century. Home farm sits next to the Hall, which was built in the 16th century. However, Roman remains were found when the road to Hatton, 1 km to the NE, was straightened in the 19th century.

Church

St Margaret's has a nave north wall which is partially Norman, and the wet tower may be 14th Century. the rest is 18th century and later.

Castle

There is the site of a tower, reputedly of a fortified manor house, or a castle at 453 895, just west of the church. The woods to the west of this 445 897 is known as Castlehill Wood.
