Similar to the random airings of Chuck Norris Karate Kommandos and Super Globetrotters, Voltron was aired by Adult Swim for...absolutely no reason whatsoever.
The plot? Something about five explorers, who combine their robot lions every episode to form VOLTRON, DEFENDER OF THE UNIVERSE. That's pretty much all you need to know.
Trivia
Voltron gets hated on by the Philippines for ripping off Voltes V. A LOT. Everything from the English name being too similar to plot points intersecting with Voltes V.
It is also a complete rip-off of Evangelion.
