Opening Ceremony
On October 5th, 2006 the opening ceremony was realised in the Main Stadium located in Megalos. The ceremony was the biggest spectacle that the SimWorld has ever seen with dazzling fireworks displays accompanied by epic light and laser shows. The following recap of the opening was published in the Dailly Georgian the morning after the ceremony.
The National Anthem of Georgiapolis was sung by Mixalis Paslidakis and it was chanted by the entire stadium. An illustration of the flag of Georgiapolis lit up the ground of the stadium during the anthem.
Following the national Anthem was a performance by local singer Kalomira Perkaris. Her performance also included a fireworks show.
After the singing performance was a laser show. The show displayed some of the history of Georgiapolis as well as its modern technologies. It lasted 20 minutes and was accompanied by a fireworks show and a DJing performance by Tiesto.
The mayor of Georgiapolis gave a speech. "As a representative of this city, a city which has recently recieved a new lifeline, I welcome you. I welcome you, your family and your friends to our city and to our nation to experience what we hope will be the best SimCup in history. We have prepared for this, and in the end the legacy of the SimCup shall last a long time. We look forward to the next week of football and we hope you will look on with us. Go Georgiapolis!"
After this, a large amount of dancers performed Greek Dances for the eyes of the world. This was also accompanied with lights and fireworks which filled the skies above. The night ended with a fantastic array of fireworks which dazzled all spectators.
Postponement
The SimCup II was postponed until notice since Oct. 26, 2006 because of political issues with Muyangguniang and Newport.
As of January 17, 2007, Georgiapolis has regained its interest in the games and resumed the event as normal.

Knockout Stage
The knockout stage was a single-elimination tournament involving the eight teams that qualified from the group stage of the tournament. There were three rounds of matches, with each round eliminating half of the teams entering that round. The successive rounds were: Quarter-finals, Semi-finals, Final. There was also a play-off to decide third/fourth place. For each game in the knockout stage, a draw was followed by thirty minutes of extra time (two fifteen minute halves); if scores were still level there would be a penalty shootout (at least five penalties each, and more if necessary) to determine who progressed to the next round. Scores after extra time are indicated by (AET), and penalty shoot outs are indicated by (PSO).
