Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay, was the most populous city of India. Due to the effects of Global Warming and rising sea levels Mumbai has shrunk in both land area and population.

History

Mumbai was originally an archipelago of seven islands. The Portuguese appropriated the islands in 1534. Which were then taken by the British in 1661. In the 1800s a large civil engineering project merged the islands into a single land mass.

Over the next 2 centuries Mumbai grew to be one of the most important commercial centres, and the city with the largest population in India.

Global Warming

With its origins as an archipelago the city of Mumbai was hard hit by the effects of Global Warming. Rising sea levels reclaimed part of the land, splitting the city into seven islands again.
