Page 155: Growth Spurt on Zatch

From Accct Wiki

The full moon lit the sky. It looked beautiful, and Kiyo wanted to stare at it the entire night. However, he had many mamodo to face with Zatch, and he needed his rest. Zatch was already asleep, not knowing the glow of the night. Kiyo sighed, and retreated to his bed.

When morning came, Zatch was the first one up, as usual. But as he opened his eyes, he felt coldness on his feet. Why wasn’t the blanket covering his feet? He was so small it was hard to believe that this wasn’t happening, but he felt odd. He stood up, and since the floor creaked whenever you stepped on it, he awoke Kiyo.

Kiyo gaped at what he saw. It was Zatch… but, it wasn’t Zatch.

“Kiyo, what’s wrong?” The mamodo asked, seeing Kiyo’s face.

“Nothing….” Kiyo said, still gaping.

Zatch couldn’t figure out why Kiyo had been looking at him like it. Was there something on his face? Was his hair messier than usual? He tried guessing on why Kiyo would do something like that. Normally, Zatch would wake up, then jump on Kiyo’s bed (being the little kid he was) and wake Kiyo up, and Kiyo would get a little mad at him but got up anyway. But today was different. Something had happened, and Zatch needed to see himself to see what was wrong.

The bathroom door handle wasn’t as hard to reach as it usually was. He grabbed it and turned it. The door creaked open. He would probably be more scared, but he felt fine. Ok, now he knew something was different about him. He looked into the mirror on the door. That was a full size mirror, showed your entire body. He closed the door and turned to face the mirror. He gaped at his reflection. Now he knew why Kiyo had been so… confused on what he looked like. That was why the blanket didn’t cover his feet. That was why he felt so different.

He had turned from a little kid into Kiyo’s age in one night.

“But mamodo can’t age, can they?” Zatch asked himself. “What will Tia think? And Megumi? And all the others? They’ll think I’m…. weird. Well, weirder than they normally think I am.” Zatch wasn’t sure if he wanted to face the world, not with him in this state. But he knew he had to. How else was he supposed to find the mamodo that wanted to be king? He knew there weren’t that many, but there were all the ones from 1000 years ago. And that was basically all of them except for the king. He sighed, and went back to the bedroom.

“Kiyo, what happened?” He asked as soon as he walked through the door.

“I have no clue. You aged to my age…” Kiyo said.

“Kiyo, what will I do every day? I had so many things to do when I was younger!” Zatch put a hand to his mouth.

“Well, you could always become a new student at my high school.” Kiyo said, thinking of ideas that might please Zatch.

“You will have to join as a junior. You can join in with my class.” Kiyo said.

They got dressed, (Kiyo let Zatch borrow some of his clothes) and walked downstairs.

They ate breakfast and left a note for Kiyo’s mom saying they were at school.

Zatch looked at the high school. He hadn’t been there in a while, and it was weird to see no one running to class or chatting with their friends. He did see some cars, which was a good sign. At least some people were here.

“Zatch, we’re early. We have to be in order for you to join. The cars belong to the teachers and the principal. We have to discuss this with the principal.” Kiyo explained, seeing the look on Zatch’s face. They walked inside.

Kiyo knocked on the principal’s door.

“Come in.” Said the voice. They opened the door and closed it.

“Oh, its you, Takamine.” The principal said.

“Sir, my friend would like to become a student in my class.” Kiyo said, getting straight to the point. The principal sighed.

“Very well. We are in the middle of the year, however. Does he know what your class has been studying?”

“No, sir. But if you ask the Mr. Yanashimi not to call on him, I could catch him up.” Kiyo said.

“Very well.” Zatch smiled, and walked out of the room.

“Kiyo, I need to talk to you about something.”

“What is it?” Kiyo knew he wouldn’t be late for class, but Zatch was waiting, and Kiyo didn’t want to keep him waiting.

“Damn you…” The principal said.

“Excuse me?” Kiyo thought that the principal wasn’t supposed to swear in front of students.

“Damn you for being his son! He was never the best student in class, but he was very smart! When I heard we were getting his son, I didn’t want to believe it. But you came, and I knew it was a sign that I was doing something wrong.” Kiyo couldn’t believe what he was hearing. What had his dad done to the principal? “When I was a student, we both got called to the principal’s office. My father was the principal at the time, and do you know what your damn father did?” Kiyo shook his head.

“He outsmarted my father! The principal of the school! When the other kids heard, they all laughed at me.” The principal glared at Kiyo.

“I’ll be leaving now…” Kiyo backed away to the door.

“You will go to hell!” The principal screamed as Kiyo closed the door.

“Well Zatch, we should be getting to class now.” Kiyo said when he caught up.

First period. Math. Kiyo wondered if Zatch could make it a whole day without screwing up something. Mr. Mikami, the teacher, introduced the class to Zatch.

“Class, we have a new student. Please come in and introduce yourself.” Zatch came into the classroom.

“Hi! My name is Zatch Bell, and I’m real glad to be here!” Mr. Mikami looked for seats.

“Zatch, there is a seat right behind Kiyo Takamine. You may take it.” Zatch went to the seat and sat down. They got back to the lesson. Mr. Mikami wrote a problem on the board.

“Mr. Mikami, may I ask you something?” Zatch asked.

“Great. He’s gonna blow his great cover by saying something stupid.” Kiyo wished him good luck in his head.

“Shouldn’t that be 17-28 squared?” Mr. Mikami took out his calculator and did the problem. He was astounded.

“Why, yes. Thank you, Zatch.” Mr. Mikami gave Zatch a smile that made Kiyo wonder.

“Mr. Mikami hardly ever smiles, especially to new kids. What did Zatch do to deserve one?” Before they knew it, the bell rang, and they stayed in their seats.

“Kiyo, why aren’t you getting up?”

“We have the same teacher for all the classes. Didn’t you know that?” Zatch shook his head. The door opened, and the person was not someone Kiyo wanted to see.

“Takamine Kiyo! I need to see you!” The principal. Kiyo reluctantly got up and followed the principal to his office.

“Kiyo, your father called me today. He says he is going to pick you up early today.”

“So? Is that a problem, and if so, why?”

“We are very strict about students learning. And it doesn’t really matter with you, but the new kid, Zatch, might have some problems without you there to help him.”

“I’ll just ask my friends to show him around.” This made something in the principal split.

“Like you have any friends! All you do is show off your talents, while really you’re just an empty soul with a body! The people who pretend to be your friends are nothing! They don’t really like you they just hang out with you so they can look cool! You never had any real friends in your life! Zatch is no exception!” Kiyo stared at him, then got up.

“I’m going home early.” Kiyo announced. The principal didn’t try to stop him.

Kiyo ran to his classroom and grabbed his bag. Before anyone could say something, he was out of the classroom and out of the school.

(Kiyo’s POV)

I couldn’t believe it. Only made it through first period, then I was gone. Zatch is probably worried about me… or is he? Maybe the principal was right, I don’t have any friends. I’m the genius, everyone thinks that’s a bad thing. And right now, it is. I just want them to be safe. If the other mamodo start attacking them… it’ll be all my fault. No, I shouldn’t think like that! The mamodo wouldn’t even know where to attack them. What am I worrying about? Nothing, that’s what. Zatch and the others will be fine. I know it. Zatch is strong, he can protect them if they get attacked.

A strong smell came into the air. I knew that smell. Chloroform! I held my breath, but I couldn’t hold it for long. I didn’t want to, but I did it anyway. I exhaled. The chloroform got into my body, making me drowsy. I could only see one shape, the shape of a body, before I drifted into the dreamworld.

It took a while for me to awaken, partly because of the chloroform, and partly because I didn’t want to. I wasn’t having the greatest dream, in fact, it was probably the worst one I had ever had. But I didn’t want to wake up, knowing that I would be somewhere I didn’t know, probably chained to a table or something like that. But since I didn’t want to look at this dream anymore, my eyes opened, slowly. I was right about one thing; I didn’t know where I was. But I wasn’t chained. My body was free to move on its own. I moved my bleeding arm. Wait, why was my arm bleeding? I looked around the room with which I was in. A broken window was on the left wall, the glass shards scattered around the floor. A piece of glass may have hit my arm while I was asleep. It was the only possible explanation. I heard something. Right after, a pause. Then the explosion. There was only one thing that could have been. Some mamodo and its owner were fighting another pair.

Footsteps came nearer and nearer. I worried, wondering who it was. It was probably my kidnapper. It was not going to be Zatch, that was the only truth he knew so far. The door opened, and in came a mamodo I had never seen. The owner was holding a white book. A white book? What kind of power did this mamodo have? The mamodo spoke.

“So, you’re the infamous Kiyo Takamine? You look weak. How can you be the one?”

“What? What are you talking about? What’s this about me being the one? And who are you? I want answers, damn it! And I want them right now!”

“My my, what an impolite boy. But alright, I will give you answers to your question. My name is Voloro. This is my owner, Kiyeshi. Our master wishes to see you. Normally, he wouldn’t want to see vermin like you, but he requested to see you. I don’t see what he sees in you, but hey, I’m just one mamodo. Our master knows what he wants, and he wants you.” I was still confused, but I didn’t want to tell them that.

“Ok… and is your master a mamodo or a human?”

“He’s a mortal, just like yourself. Kiyo, you will be staying here for two nights. On the morning of the third day, we will send you off to meet our master.”

“One more question. Does your master want to see only me, or me and Zatch?”

“That is an excellent question.” I was surprised by that comment.

“It… it is?” I asked.

“Yes. You and Zatch are a good pair, and I’m not surprised you asked that. Kiyo, he wishes to see just you.” I had my answers, except for the one thing I still wanted to know. Who was the master?
