First Up is Jake, the earnest and steadfast leader of the team; not because he wanted to be, but because his friends look to him for guidance. While saving the world is nice, what he really wants most is to save his brother Tom, a Controller. Jake is one of those people who are natural leaders. If you were ever trapped in a burning building, you would turn to Jake and ask "What do we do?" And he would have an answer, too. An quite open and friendly guy at heart, the constant pressures of having to act as leader and manipulate his friends for strategic ends gradually wears him down at times, leaving him acting cold and ruthless to hide his inner stress.

Next is Rachel, She's up to date on the hippest trends, but don't get it through your head that she's weak or helpless. Rachel may look like Little Miss Teen Model or whatever, but she thinks she's Storm from the X-Men. Unlike the others, Rachel loves the thrill and adrenaline surge of combat, not good for keeping your mental condition solid and stable. Not helping is the fact that her friends, particularly her cousin Jake, implicitly encourage this by using her for her "unique talents". A straight A student who looks like a teen model, while her favorite morphs tend to be as large and gruesome as possible.

For Cassie, think of a short, cute girl with very short black hair, wearing overalls and big muddy boots and looking totally capable of giving a tetanus shot to an angry bear. The kind and compassionate member of the group, a young animal lover who helps her parents at their Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic. She often serves as the group's "moral compass". Initially a moral absolutist, the things she's forced to do cause her to re-evaluate her ethics.

Marco thinks the whole world is just a setup for a joke. Marco will tell a joke while he's bleeding and terrified and in pain. But there are times when his eyes lose their skeptical expression and grow glittery and dangerous. Jake's best bud since infancy, the comedian of the group, as well as most cynical, ruthless and practical. He was against fighting the Yeerks at the beginning, but soon changed his resolve when it became personal. Described as a "paranoid nutcase" with a "Hamlet complex", Marco's knack for strategic and critical thinking was instrumental when it came to missions and the security for the group, but his tendency to hold efficiency and pragmatism above all else would cause him to have personal conflicts.

Finally, we have Tobias. Tobias is kind of the aloof loner of the group. Messy, out-of-control hair. Dreamy eyes that always seemed to be looking at something no one else could see. Bullied throughout grade school until the fourth grade when Jake saved him from a visit to Mr. Swirly's Downtown Office, Tobias now acts as the brains of the operation, managing the Animorphs Subreddit and doing internet reviews under the guise of RedRemembrance64. He also does the scouting for the team, having somehow gained a second base morph in the shape of a red-tailed hawk. As you'd expect, flying aside, the time he spends as a hawk is not always fun, and the harsh realities of living as a part of nature (such as starving when hunting is bad and having to fight for territory) are piled on top of Tobias' increasing struggles with his human life and the fact that he's a major component of Earth's defense.

And here's where we get to the bigger changes, see. These kids are far from the first recruits that War Prince Elfangor and his crew of Andalite Soldiers has picked up over the eight years they've been fighting off the Yeerks. But as more fronts pop up here and there, it was inevitable that his team would have to spread out and recruit new soldiers, leaving the great prince by himself, all alone. So when it appeared to be business as usual as he recruited the five, he could sense that Visser Thirteen (A completely separate character from Visser Three, mind you) was looming ever closer and with the open cave leading our heroes to his ship, he was left with no choice but to give the five access to the savefiles of his teammates, giving them the morphs that his group hac acquired and accumulated over the days they've spent on earth. Now, breaking the law and giving humans the ability to morph was one thing. Bestowing the morphs of his trusted allies to five overgrown children who think they're better than everyone else was another. But when his attempt to escape Subvisser 47 (one of Visser Thirteen's elite soldiers.) ends up having him morph a red-tailed hawk for well beyond the two-hour mark, sealing the once proud andalite prince in this particular morph forever, Elfangor-Sisirial-Shamtul has finally hit rock bottom. For characterization, Imagine Metal Gear's Solid Snake in this particular situation. He'd be severely disadvantaged, yes. But he knows when his expertise is needed for the particular situation at hand. He's honored as a hero by his people, but clearly is too ashamed of himself to relish in his status for more reasons than the obvious...

They end up inducting two additional Animorphs, the first of these being Aximili-Esgarroth-Ishtill. Younger Brother of the now disgraced Elfangor. Aximili joined the group when he was rescued by the kids during his rescue mission for Elfangor, only to find his Older Brother as a nothlit in the city of Atlantis. Initially considering himself an outsider, Aximili, or "Ax" as he came to be known, retained many of the traits and values of his people which ranged from loyalty and discipline to outright ruthlessness and xenophobia, and the distinctions led to both comedic and insightful critiques on Earth customs. Ax is a soldier down deep inside. Smug and superior sometimes, loopy and silly other times, Ax is still an Andalite aristh, a warrior-in-training. But despite his older brother's newly uncovered history of violating Seerow's Kindness which forbids Andalites from sharing their technological advances with lesser races.

Aka

And now... The wildcard of the group. Imagine an african cape buffalo brushing its tail on a morphing pyramid which has a seven hour limit as opposed to the typical two hours. (Clip) So yeah, Imagine if that last thing didn't happen. That would be Aka. Aka would start off with barely enough of a vocabulary to make up small sentences in her own chapters, but as time would go on, she would improve her mental capacity from there with Ax and Cassie as her teachers. She has to if she is to hide from Madoumu's Love: The Andalite Law that states that any created/enhanced intelligence must stay by the Andalite responsible at all times.

Villains

And now that we know the heroes of this war story, lets get into the main baddies of the brand: The Yeerks. People have already acquainted themselves with the Yeerk we've grown to lothe as Visser Three. So, I'm pleased to Say that he will be more or less the same character from the original books, a Yeerk studies all things Andalite, ends up taking an Andalite body for himself, exact same guy except now he has a Starscream to go with his Megatron.

Meet Visser Thirteen. A wholly unique Yeerk with a wholly unique origin and motives, Maruon 713 was an ordinary Yeerk who was struck by a nuclear bolt of lightning, gaining the ability to create a body for himself, making him a Numkyulith Controller. He is among a few others who are able to do as such like Subvisser 36: an awkward tower of fluffy clothes and shy demeanor, think fluttershy from Friendship is Magic but forced onto the evil team, alright? Now, with Subvisser 66, We have a pleasantly plump little simpleton who probably infested a Taxxon before going Numkyulith and never really recovered from the fear of starvation that Taxxons often have. Surprisingly nimble for a body of this girth, he acts as a heavy-hitter who plays backup to any Visser or Subvisser as needed. And finally we have Subvisser 86, A Yeerk scientist who is driven by her Jealousy of Visser 3 getting his mitts on an Andalite body and vows to one-up the fella by any means necessary, including Time Travel!

Yeah, one of the major turning points of the Earth Liberation Army Plotline is her thirty year plan, infiltrate InventCo from Meet the Robinsons wait til a certain father of the future comes along to run the company, infest him in the twenty-fifth year, invent the Time Machine and Helping Hat (read: Dracon Drone) and have the prototype of the latter travel back to the start of her plan to reduce the world of Disney's 47th Animated Classic to nothingness...

Others

But there's more to life than the blacks and whites. There's also Star Command, the organisation of the Galactic Alliance designed to uphold such important laws as Seerow's Kindness which forbids any higher lifeform from enlightening lower civilizations of their scientific advancements... A law that Elfangor and his Old Crew have been known for breaking every now and again to recruit new comrades in the fight. That's when Captain Lilo Pelekai comes in, appearing in disguise throughout Book 4: My Name is Ax, She ends up offering to lift Elfangor's charges if it is just the invocation of Seerow's Kindness that was happening. Aka 'Demorphs' into her human form to clear things up.

Next is the Yeerk Peace Movement.
