The catalog is accessible by talking to Tom Nook. It is essentially a list of every item you have ever owned (with the exception of a few unlisted items), "owned" being defined by "had in your inventory". If you go to another town, pick up an item, then drop it, it will enter your catalog. You can order items from the catalog for the same price as you pay for them normally when they appear in-store. When you order an item from the catalog, it will arrive in the mail within a day. Not all items in the catalog can be ordered.
