History Moreshet Ma'arav BBYO was founded in the February of 2017 by various teens in the Naperville area near Chicago. It began as "Morshet Ma'arav", but after the board realized that this spelling of the Hebrew transliteration for 'Western Legacy' was incorrect, the region had this changed.

On September 4th, 2016, the 15th Regional Aym HaChaverot of GMR, Sonia Holstein, and the 15th Regional S'ganit of GMR, Lauren Heiss, met up with a group of around 17 teens at Forever Yogurt in Downtown Naperville. Unfamiliar with the area, Sonia and Lauren were hopeful for the future of the Jewish youth in the Western Suburbs. After around five and a half months of recruiting and hosting events around the Naperville area, what was originally known as "Naperville BBYO" would soon have enough members to begin a chapter of their own and receive their temporary charter. A month later, 7 of these teens attended their first Invite Convention at the Northbrook Hilton, and by the next September, they would be sending almost 30 members to GMR's annual Kickoff Yacht Party.

Moreshet Ma'arav BBYO is still thriving today with almost 40 members, their official charter and chapter number, and two of their founders elected to the regional board. The presence they have in the region is vibrant, and they continue to grow as the days go by.
