In August 2004, then DC Council N'siah Jessi Polsky called Lindsay Smith and asked her if she would be interested in starting a new chapter, as DC BBG was trying to expand. Lindsay accepted, and began making phone calls. The first program was on September 19th, and was attended by Lindsay Smith, Wynne Strugatch, Rachel Brecher, Lauren Lynch and Kimmie Garber. Following the first event, programs were held every Saturday. The first meeting was held as a joint one with another start up chapter at the time. Three weeks later, the women of Nava had a sleepover to establish the chapter name, mascot, song (which was later changed), movie (which was later changed) and colors. The women attending this sleepover were Jennifer Ahdoot, Lauren Lynch, Kimmie Garber, Rachel Brecher, and Lindsay Smith. Nava passed a constitution very quickly. The chapter easily established traditions. In December, Nava elected its first executive board, which consisted of Lindsay Smith as N'siah, Jennifer Ahdoot as S'ganit, Kimmie Garber as Mit Mom, and Cari Romm as Mazkirah/Gizborit. Within 5 months, twenty girls were registered. At 6 months, Nava received its charter and number from BBYO International. Today, Nava has 43 members and is going strong.
