Origin or Status of a rule (or comment)Although rules with different origins can all be included on WikiVinaya, it should at all times be clear what the 'status' of a certain practice, rule or comment is:
Maybe people can put forth ideas or suggestions to achieve this on the following page: WikiVinaya:Distinguishing_origins_of_rules Who edits WikiVinayaSome deliberation is needed on what kind of wiki this will be, will it be completely open in both reading and editing, or will editing be in some way be restricted (this can be done by the admin. Currently anonymous users cannot edit pages; only read. People who create an account can currently edit pages and upload files also. If WikiVinaya is to be a dependable source, it may be preferrable to have a group of monks or laypeople who are very knowledgeable about Vinaya to do most of the editing. Newcomers to Vinaya are bound to make more mistakes when writing texts, especially in an area like the Vinaya, in which actually practicing the (Dhamma-)Vinaya (as a monk) make the Vinaya very relevant to your life, and thus contibutes significantly to your understanding of Vinaya. This is something which needs to be addressed rather soon, while the premises of WikiVinaya are still being set up. Also the stated purpose of WikiVinaya is not a fixed thing, certainly in the current (beginning) stage of the WikiVinaya. Please put your thoughts on WikiVinaya:who edits the WikiVinaya Standardizing the StructureIf at any time articles on the Vinaya-rules do come into being on WikiVinaya, it would be good to have a kind of format for these articles; their structure, things that should be or should not be included in them, etcetera. These standards should not be overly limiting, but should also give good guidelines for creating articles which avoid certain 'pitfalls' and are high in clarity and quality, and give some commonality to the different articles on the various rules. The WikiVinaya can be read and consulted by anybody, but if you want to contribute to WikiVinaya, and edit or add articles or pages, you should open an account. Opening an account can be done very quickly by clicking [[Special:Userlogin|here].
Pali and translations
The WikiVinaya is aimed at the Vinaya of the Pali Canon (or Tipitaka), so sometimes quotations in the Pali language will need to be included, but please be sure to accompany those by an accurate English translation.
About editthis.info
The WikiVinaya uses the same 'engine' as the Wikipedia, which is nice for when you have some experience on Wikipedia already. You can find the user's guide [here.
This site can now contain up to 5 MB of text and images. This can be relatively easily changed to 25 MB by making some links from other websites to WikiVinaya, and reporting those links to editthis.info. More than 25 MB costs money... So please be aware of this when uploading images.
