I'll have a look at it, but here we only have the first edition, not the revised/new edition. I will probably use one of your ruleanalyses to make one template and prepare it as an article, I will also look at some other wikis to get some ideas, they sometimes have some nice things which I think could be incorparated in pages on the Patimokkha as well. A page for each rule is minimum I think, maybe one category per rule is preferrable, with several articles treating some aspect of the same rule. A minimum or 'basic version' would be the entry-point, and as necessary the article would contain links to other articles which are related to that rule, and go into more detail on some aspect of that rule (for example the detailed word-analysis, or maybe to a version of the same rule from for example the Dharmaguptakas.greetings. If WikiVinaya is to be a dependable source, it may be preferrable to have a group of monks or laypeople who are very knowledgeable about Vinaya to do most of the editing. Newcomers to Vinaya are bound to make more mistakes when writing texts, especially in an area like the Vinaya, in which actually practicing the (Dhamma-)Vinaya (as a monk) make the Vinaya very relevant to your life, and thus contibutes significantly to your understanding of Vinaya. This is something which needs to be addressed rather soon, while the premises of WikiVinaya are still being set up. Also the stated purpose of WikiVinaya is not a fixed thing, certainly in the current (beginning) stage of the WikiVinaya. DJti 21:43, 28 June 2006 (EDT)

I fully agree that we need to limit the editors to knowledgeable contributors, which probably means mostly monks and nuns. It also depends a lot on what exactly you want, I suggested before (in the discussion tab of the main page) having a page for each rule, each chapter of the khandhakas, each subject which needs a synoptic treatment, each Vinaya recension maybe etc. If so, I think it ought to be based on the earliest sources, since the Pali is the most familar and convenient for most of us it's natural that we'll start there but I think the other Vinaya recensions should be welcome. In order to make it practical we should probably aim for maximum concision, which means quoting essential phrases rather than big passages. DJti, you read Thai very well, please have a look at Aj. Maha Virapong's "Ariya-Vinaya" book from Wat Pah Pong, I discussed it with him a bit when I was there. I think he begins with the main word-analysis section for each rule and then summarises the other sections. This is off topic, but the reason for it was to say that 'who edits' and 'what we're aiming for' are related questions. Would you be willing initially to do most of the formatting and setting up of pages? I'm not as good at computer stuff as you but I can do Pali, whereas you're great at computer stuff but don't do Pali. Perhaps we should specialise in what we're good at? I've been doing presentations for the Vinaya classes here based on the Vinaya-pitaka itself not on BMC (I get people to read the sections in BMC and IB Horner's trs. of the Vinaya before the class and then present a summary as well as a thorough discussion of all the points where there are different interpretations, doubtful points etc. I'm also doing the bhikkhuni-vinaya because we have a bhikkhuni here now, so far only BhiPj5-8 and BhSg7. I'll email you the notes.
