Pontiac was a brand of automobiles first produced in 1926, and sold in the United States, Canada and Mexico by General Motors, marketed as an "athletic" brand specializing in mainstream performance vehicles.

Performance
In the 1960s, Pontiac became known as a performance brand with the introduction of the Pontiac GTO in 1964 and Pontiac Firebird in 1967. The GTO was sold until 1974 and the Firebird was sold until 2002. The GTO came back in 2004 as a rebadged Holden Monaro but ended in 2006.
Death
Pontiac and GM badge engineering dates back to the 1980s with the introduction of the Pontiac Sunbird. However by 2008, most of the models sold by Pontiac were rebadged vehicles from GM. The only vehicle from Pontiac that was not an obvious rebadge was the Pontiac G6.
