In 1991, CEO Herbert Powell allowed his half-brother, Homer Simpson, to design a car for the average American. However, at the grand unveiling, Herbert finds out that the car is a badly-designed and hideous monstrosity known as The Homer. It was reviled at the unveiling that the car would sell for $82,000 ($125,791.13 in 2007 money). He discovers that it would never sell and filed for bankruptcy.
