The Zombie Extermination Force (abbreviated ZEF) is a fictional organization designed to exterminate zombies. The company originated as Smith and Wesson. The company was founded by Jimmy Smith and Patrick Wesson. As of June 2010, the current CEO is Maurice Ashford.

The Zombie Extermination Force began as Smith and Wesson Hunting Co. Ltd. and was founded by cousins Jimmy Smith and Patrick Wesson in 1927. The company was a bootlegger disguised as a hunting shop in the southern United States.
In World War II, both Jimmy Smith and Patrick Wesson went to war. While they were at war, they temporarily closed their shop and was reopened in 1946. Jimmy Smith sold his share of the company to his son, William Smith in the late '40s. Wesson sold his share two years to his son, Mackenzie Wesson. The business was then run by William Smith and Mackenzie Wesson together.

In the 1990s, Parker decided to retire and sell his company. His company was sold in 1996 to a small group of people. In 1997, they began reshaping the business. In late 1998, the organization was unofficially the Y2k Busters. In 1999 they focused most of their year preventing Y2K. In June 2000, the business was closed.
In 2001, the company was bought by Michael Anderson, a small businessman, and renamed to The Zombie Extermination Force. The company's focus changed to mainly hunting zombies. In 2002, ZEF closed all locations and moved to the location in Atlanta. In 2003, the Alabama Branch was created.
In 2006, Michael Anderson founded AIBP Inc. (Anderson International Business Properties). In 2007, the ZEF was put under ownership of AIBP Inc.
In mid 2008, The ZEF announced plans to open a stores at the current ZEF locations.
