Help:Administrating your wiki
From EditThis.info
dronel Creating your new wiki was three clicks. But now, how do you manage and administrate it?
Unless otherwise noted, the directions in each of the following sections presumes that you are logged in as an administrator of your wiki. An administrator is a user logged in under a username that belongs to the sysop group. The default account for a new wiki, Admin, is automatically an administrator account.

Protecting your wiki
How to protect pages
Click the "protect" link. If your skin is Monobook (the default), it's a tab near the very top of the page. If your skin is Cologne Blue, it's a link near the bottom. Other skins may put the link in other places.
Once a page has been protected, the "protect" link becomes an "unprotect" link, allowing you to remove the protection.
How to restrict read and write permissions
Use your control panel (accessible from the toolbox section of the sidebar). You can set viewing and editing privileges (for logged-in and/or anonymous users) using the drop-down lists in the User Rights section. Click "Save," just below the drop-down controls, to store and use the new settings.

Managing user groups
How to give administrator status to users
To make a user an administrator, you must be logged in as a bureaucrat, not just an administrator. A bureaucrat is a user logged in under a username that belongs to the bureaucrat group. A bureaucrat has the power to change other users' group memberships. The default account for a new wiki, Admin, is automatically a bureaucrat account.
- Click "Special pages" in the sidebar.
- In the section "Restricted special pages" near the bottom of the page, click "User rights management." This takes you to the page Special:Userrights.
- Enter the username you want to promote to administrator.
- Click "Edit User Groups." This displays two lists of groups: the groups this username already belongs to, and the other available groups it might be added to.
- Click "sysop" in the list of available groups. (If this is already present in the list "Member of," then this username is already an administrator account.
- Click "Save User Groups" to add the user to the group.
Caution: If you add a username to the bureaucrat group, that account will have enough power to take away your powers and even block you from the wiki. Use this option carefully.
