European Magic
From War Thread
European Magic, also known as the Ars Mantica (from Latin and Greek, roughly meaning "Arts of Prophecy") are five branches of related magic.

The Five Types
Magic is generally seen as a rare phenomenon in Europe; only 5% of the population can actually use magic.
The five types are Biomancy, Lyenomancy, Pyromancy, Aeromancy, and Hydromancy.
Biomancy
Biomancy, also known as Life Magic, is the most prevalent of magicks in Europe, accounting for approximately 60% of the magical population. Biomancers draw their magic from their positive emotions and physical energy reserves, and are often high-spirited people. It is also the quickest-replenishing of all the European magicks; Biomancers are rarely in foul moods for long, if ever - foul moods are a sign that they are as drained of energy as they can get.
Lyenomancy
Lyenomancy, running counter to Biomancy, is the magic of destruction. Around 20% of Europe's magical population can wield Lyenomancy to any degree. The most unusual thing about Lyenomancy is that, unlike all other forms of magic, it draws solely off the physical, first removing energy and then flesh. Because of this, it is the hardest to replenish, and those who use it too often usually have no vestigal organs, those being the first consumed to create energy for their magic. Lyenomancy is also traditionally much more energy-intensive than most other magics, but is easier to do research with. One example of a newly-created Lyenomantic spell is Emperor Joseph Rictor's teleportation spell, which draws off of the body to send a person to another place.
Pyromancy
Pyromancy is the rarest of all of the Ars Mantica, with only 1% of European magic users being able to use it. It draws its strength off of the passions, furies, and strong emotions of the soul, and those who use up these reserves often seem apathetic compared to their normal passionate selves. As its name suggests, Pyromancy contains the ability to use and manipulate flame. However, this flame is both outer and inner; drawing upon the more constructive passions renews the energy of the subject, while drawing on the destructive passions causes harm to a subject or area. Pyromancers explain this effect by calling it "the duality fo fire".
Aeromancy
Aeromancy, used by approximately 5% of the European magical population, is often considered the magic of trickery and disguise, though it has other effects. It draws from the wit and stamina of its caster, and for that reason is rarely used on the caster themselves for any purpose other than illusion. Aeromancy is able to provide a quick burst of speed, hightened reflexes, and (somehow) sharper eyes; it can also be used offensively, producing harmful winds, wind blindness, and hindrance. Aeromancers very often travel incognito, as it suits their style to be able to "blend in" with the background.
