Ms. Sukol: Lara Sukol

Lara Sukol, a woman with integrity and kindness. Ms. Sukol has a Bachelor's degree from the University of Washington and earned a Master's in History from the University of Vermont. Ms. Sukol demonstrates the spirit of education by exposing her students to diverse beliefs, ideals, and theories. Ms. Sukol advocates in favor of women, minorities, the poor, animals and the environment. As a teacher, Lara Sukol encourages her students to take proactive roles in their lives and in the country they call home.

Howard Zinn, an inspiration to Ms. Sukol, states: “I'm worried that students will take their obedient place in society and look to become successful cogs in the wheel - let the wheel spin them around as it wants without taking a look at what they're doing. I'm concerned that students not become passive acceptors of the official doctrine that's handed down to them." Ms. Sukol believes in critical analysis and examination of everything human including but not limited to history, politics, art, music, psychology and science. Lara Sukol is neither orthodox nor traditional. She does not take for granted what she is told and as a result she is a powerful leader and member of the community. Shoreline students are privileged to learn from her.
