Better Than Your Life was a phrase used by Nathan in freshman year of high school, with the intended effect of a put-down on Asher. It has since taken on new meaning and is occasionally used as Group Slang.

The "Better Than Your Life" Incident

Following the separation of a middle school clique led by Andy Dustan that had restructured at the advent of high school, some rivalries began to emerge amongst fractured members and subgroups. One such rivalry, whose roots are to this day unknown, developed between Nathan and Asher. The two would commonly patronize or mock each other in overly sarcastic terms whenever they would meet. The most memorable encounter is rooted in a Millencolin concert that took place Freshman year. Nathan had told Asher about the show and asked if Asher was going, to which he responded in the negative. After the show took place, Asher curiously followed up by asking Nathan how it went. Inexplicably, Nathan responded with the now infamous retort, "It was better than your life".

Effects

Although perhaps not at the level of Group catchphrases, Nathan's famous saying sees use (jokingly) as a way to summarize or express satisfaction with the completion of a task or other undertaking:

Example:

  • Person A: How was the movie?
  • Person B: It was better than your life!
