You lead your army into battle into the fields in which it was rumored that the enemy army was gathering. But they aren't there!
It is possible that your enemies heard about your offensive and retreated, but you also think the whole thing might have been a vicious rumor concocted by your enemies to draw your army out into the open. You also think you might have just gotten lost.
