The Schools

From what little we know about Survival of the Fittest, Version 0, we have been informed that the original SOTF consisted of competitors from two different schools. The first school in the competition was Aberthol High School, the school that Sydney Morvran was from. The second school was apparently Shaker High. This is unveiled in the profile of Andrew Klock, where it is stated that the students from Shaker were abducted before Andrew's transfer to Barry Coleson, which happened after the game ended (with the death of all the Shaker students who had went, seeing as Sydney Morvran, the winner, was from Aberthol.)

However, Version 1 of Survival of the Fittest took a step far beyond Aberthol and Shaker, and actually became an international terror threat. Not only were students from across the United States abducted, but students from around the globe also shared their fate. Below is a list of all the schools represented in the SOTF ACT, and their respective representatives.

Kill Count

Ah, the infamous kill count. Some characters play to survive, some play to save others... and some play simply for the fun of it. Below is a list of all of those that have died, and by whose hand their life was taken. (Original idea from d0ddi0slave, list posted by Megami.)

TOTAL: 107 DEAD

Mr. Danya kills mean that the character died via collar explosion.

Other Deaths:

1) Ken Mendel got torn up by boat propellors and shot by the boats themselves.
2) Andrew Lipson was hit by lightning, fell off a cliff and eventually drowned.
3) Kichiro Taka died via smoke inhailation.
4) Hawley Faust succumbed to his wounds.
5) Amber Phillips was landed on by the terrorist helicopter and torn to shreads.
6) Heather Pendergast eventually bled to death as a result of her wounds.
7) Hannah Juett was indirectly killed by Kaige when a hand grenade set off by Kaige caused an explosion inside the warehouse, resulting in Hannah falling from the rooftop.

Death, death and more death...

SOTF has nearly run the gamut of character death, almost every fate imaginable has befallen those who have "lost the game" so to speak. Some death causes are:

  • Shot
  • Stabbed
  • Throat Slit
  • Evisceration
  • Suicide
  • Dismemberment
  • Grenade Explosions
  • Falling death
  • Drowning
  • Decapitation
  • Strangulation
  • Bleeding to death
  • Wound infection
  • Collar Explosion
  • Smoke Inhalation
  • Bludgeoning and
  • Throat torn open by teeth.

Only a few causes have not been used, such as:

  • Eaten by animal
  • Poisoning
  • Crossbow, or normal bow or speargun inflicted injuries
  • Burning
  • Crushed by falling object
  • Impalement
  • Defenstration (being thrown out a window) and
  • Bisection (being cut in half).

Battle of the Sexes

Survival of the Fittest may be based on Battle Royale, but SOTF also has many differences from its counterpart. In BR, 42 students participated in the contest (21 male and 21 female) with 2 students (1 male and 1 female) being killed off at the beginning of the media, thus leaving a total of 20 male and 20 female students. Survival of the Fittest worked a little differently, and our ladies were shorthanded from the very beginning.

Program Start: June 19, 2005
Male Participants: 74
Female Participants: 46

Total Participants: 120

As you can see, the girls were greatly outnumbered in the SOTF ACT, even from the beginning. Now, as of June 19, 2006 (SOTF Day 9), the numbers for male and female participants are as follows:

Male Participants: 10
Female Participants: 4

Total Participants: 14

While the ladies of SOTF started out a staggering 28 competitors less than their counterparts, the girls have definitely held their own in this competition. During the competition, the boys have been responsible for a total of 53 deaths during the game, while the girls have killed only around half of that at 27. The other 25+ deaths on the island have occurred by either terrorists, collar explosions, or miscellaneous occurances.
