With laddish facial features belying his true age, Alroy can often be underestimated. However, the large quiver and weapons attached to his back show that he can mean business when he wants to. As suits his style of combat, Alroy is fairly pleased that he is often underestimated, as it can give him a certain element of surprise. You could say that his tough leather armour give this away a little though; it is quite heavy compared to that which is usually worn by Tavricans, especially those who specialise in archery. Beneath it, he wears a deep red jerkin, a colour similar to that of his hair. The material is soft and prevents any abrasion between the archer's skin and the toughened leather. For a boy of Maris, his hair is fairly long: in Tavrica though, it falls to around the average length found amongst lads. His hair is a distinctive red colour, commonly found in the Endali borderlands. He keeps it back with a simple strip of purple cloth, fashioned into a headband.

Born the son of two mages, Alroy was a clever lad, brought up well with a good flow of money going towards him. That doesn't go to say that he was from a rich family or that he was spoilt, it just showed that his parents cared for him and wanted him to benefit from a good childhood. His family wasn't rich or noble, just an average middle-class family. He benefitted well from his education, showing an astute mind and a fondness for reading from a relatively early age. When he passed from the childhood home into serious education, his parents prepared him to follow their career into the field of magic. For a while at his school, he showed aptitude beyond others in his class and he grew proud of himself, as did his parents. However, since he was cleverer than most, he felt a little distanced from them and felt that he was losing out to others.

He had a change of heart, the idea of a career in a magic seemed like a duff choice amongst his friends. They only dreamt of being mighty warriors, wielding shining weapons to ward off foes with their physical strength or agility. Not a single one longed to be a mage. Manning the ballistae or caring for others with staves seemed boring compared to the muscle and bravery required for the frontline. In his heart, Alroy didn't feel he had the features to fight on the frontlines: for one, he wasn't too strong or burly. Secondly, the vulnerability of being face-to-face with another army seemed foolishly dangerous. You might be brave going that way, but you were more likely to die than become a hero. Alroy was torn between the two before he saw a true middle ground. Tavrica's famous archery division never really stood toe-to-toe with a foe, yet they were still brave and exciting. Certainly more exciting than some old scholar reciting ancient texts.

As he advanced from a normal school to an academy, he made the change from a mage to an archer. His parents frowned on the decision at first, unhappy to see him abandoning the plans set before him. Once they saw how he adapted though, they were rather pleased to say the least. He changed not only his weapon, but his stylings too. He used his intelligence for quick wit and puns rather than remembering plain facts and figures. He grew popular because of this and he decided to carry his skilful intellect through to his physical art. Firing a bow could be done simply: just pulling back, using most of the skill in aiming then releasing. However, Alroy brought a uniqueness to his shots, firing seemingly carelessly with great accuracy. Also, as his talent for the bow grew, he was able to perform several trick shots for his and his friends' amusements.

Upon leaving the academy, he travelled for a handful of months, exploring different areas of the Tavrican nation. Towards the end of that period, his cashflow dwindled a little since he'd overspent previously. He was too curious in some areas and had spent a little too much in them, both in time and money. To make up for this, he decided to use his already developed talents that he'd intended to take a break from. He'd intended to join the army after a short period of travelling, but he was going to use his skills early, as a mercenary. Here, he discovered a new fondness. Crossbows. Since they fired so simply, you could do much more trickery with one. Not just to amuse friends, but to fool enemies too. A flippant, careless attitude often marked him as an idiot amongst foes, but they soon learned that he hid a deadly shot beneath the foolishness. He was so taken by being a mercenary, that his passion to join the Tavrican army was much greater than before.
