Job Origin Backgound
Ever since there have been leaders, there have been people that have wanted them quietly killed off. A certain type of warrior that operates through stealth and precision rather than brute force filled the role, and that killer is that Assassin. Assassins are evasive fighters that can wreck havoc among the unprepared. Sneaky and deadly, they often wait out of sight for the moment to be right, and then hit hard and without mercy. Against hardened opponents they have no chance of escape, but the skilled Assassin isn't detected until everyone around him is already at his mercy.

Notes
The Assassin literally has the worst Defense in the game but the highest Accuracy, Evasion almost as good as a Rogue, and great Strength on top of that. A few well-aimed hits from an Assassin can devistate an enemy force; blinding their attacks, halting ther actions or movements, or even killing instantly. The good Assassins know that they are no match for even light melees in a fair fight and make full use of their skulking abilities and the bad Assassins usually don't live long enough to regret their mistakes.
Assassin as a Main Job
Main job Assassins will always need to be concerned about their paper Defense score. Even if you spend most of your time invisible you will need to break it for decisive strikes, and that's when the enemy will focus on you. Unless they put levels into a job with seriously high defenses like Paladin or Soldier, the Assassin will never be able to withstand direct assault. Assassin / Rogue maxes out evasion to hope for the best as well as giving the Assassin further situational flexibility, making that probably the best choice. Assassin / Hunter builds great Strength and is skilled at fighting certain types of enemies.
Assassin as a Sub Job
Assassin as a sub adds respectable Accuracy, Evasion, and Strength, but almost literally nonexistance Defense growth. If this isn't a problem for a character than an Assassin's move list can be quite useful. Skulking moves can be used at a range and the Throws can give a character a respectable short range firepower. Rogue / Assassin and Hunter / Assassin combos can be dangerous. However, like Rogue, Assassin is a very situational sub and there are better jobs to level up in - use Assassin for fights against those nasty bosses and sub something more well-rounded when looking for level ups.
