Appearance
Yuu wears a nondescript, indifferent, reclusive facial expression; not perpetually annoyed, but not the kind people randomly approach either. He carries himself with quiet solidness - doesn't stand out, but just there. His hair is never a subject of complaint from the higher-ups. His uniform is tidy, and when he's not wearing them he wears mostly casual clothes with his always-present postman bag and huge, around-ear headphones around his neck. He's tall and properly packed with average jock's muscles. If he seems intimidating (which is most of the time), it's unintentional.
History
Yuu was born in a small town in Okinawa prefecture, Japan. His father was a member of US Air Force stationed in Kadena, his mother was a local Okinawan working as a cook in the air base's cafeteria. Yuu was a result of two weeks' worth of romance and a night of passion. Grey Reeves, the American soldier, was relocated without knowing that he had a child out of wedlock.
Yuu spent the first twelve years of his life with his mother and his grandma, living a quiet, busy life helping out in the family farm (orchids and Mandarin oranges). As an only child, he grew attached to and protective of his family. He realized very early that his mother, though gentle and kind-hearted, didn't have what it took to take care of the family, so he took the responsibility. With his grandma increasingly aging, Yuu assumed the head-of-the-family role since ten years old, making most of the decisions and working odd jobs to earn for the family. Otherwise, he usually spent his time playing basketball or studying for scholarship after scholarship in local public schools.
One summer, after Yuu turned twelve, Grey Reeves finally retired from the military and went to find Ayaka Kikuchi again. Needless to say, he was surprised to find out that Ayaka had a son. Tired of living alone, Grey asked Ayaka to move back to US with him and get married. Yuu was opposed to this at first; but grandma Kikuchi just passed away and Yuu wasn't sure he had the resources to provide a comfortable life for his mother. Plus Ayaka had always been in love with Grey.
Grey had a pretty good life back in America. More than well-off, actually. Yuu constantly missed his hometown in Okinawa although he never actually showed it. Grey thought Yuu would be more comfortable going to a high school with Japanese ways. His mother suggested Second Heaven, off he went.
Personality
Yuu usually keeps to himself, preferring to be alone with his books or his music than hanging out with other kids. The only time he tolerates crowd is when he plays Kendo or basketball (used to playing street, with American soldiers or fellow Kadena kids). His life revolves around studying, music, basketball, tinkering with his motorcycle (Yamaha FZ-1, bought by the money he saved for years), and his family.
He's focused, determined, and most of the time very serious. His idea of relaxing is reading, playing sports, or piano (never professionally trained, but had good enough ear and determination to teach himself). Yuu isn't cold per se, he can smile and he has some sense of humor. He's just... pretty damn antisocial. He's learning to loosen up because Father Dear happened and he doesn't have to worry so much about the family anymore.
He loves his mother very much and wishes only the best life for her. He struggles to feel the same for his father; it's hard, but Grey is slowly earning his respect.
He also has a three-year-old little sister whom he's overprotective of.
