Visible Markings: Pierced ears – but they are usually adorned with clear plastic sticks instead of proper earrings, ink smudges on her cheeks and hands, notes scribbled on the back of her palm when she can’t find paper.

Appearance: Rowan has that faraway look about her all the time, reminding people of a lost, delicate sparrow rather than a healthy, alert teenager. Her layered, short crop is just beginning to grow out of its cut, and the curls add a sort of ‘wildness’ to her dazed look. Despite her efforts at looking and keeping neat, Rowan’s cheeks and fingers are almost always ink smudged, her hair pins slightly askew and her clothes ruffled. She carries an olive green messenger bag with her a lot.

Other Likes: Rowan has a fondness for colourful knick knacks, including beads, pins, jewelry and of all things, socks!, as well as flowers, patterns…and whatever catches her eye, really. And taking random notes – either in her journal or on her hand. Yes.
Other Dislikes: She shies away from loud, grotesque and dark-themed things, all of which startle her. Hospitals make her uneasy, as does anything associated with them such as the school nurse, the smell of antiseptic...

Personality: Somewhat flighty, Rowan has always been a daydreamer, drawn towards the realms of fantasy so filled with endless possibilities. Intellectually brilliant, if not somewhat behaviourally odd, she believes in the utmost good of the world, and firmly sticks by the principles that “life is, above all, good,” and that “things will turn out right”. Armed with these beliefs, life continually surprises her and Rowan accepts these twists and turns without complaint.

Being a daydreamer of sorts, she can be described as having one foot in this world, and one foot in another. She continually appears to be lost in her own thoughts and sometimes has trouble following conversations around her. Otherwise, Rowan can be described as “that slightly odd girl” who has a propensity to hum or chat to herself, and whom readily greets people (when she’s aware of their presence) with a small smile and slight wave of her hand.

Why Second Heaven?: Highly recommended by a family friend!
History: Rowan is a single child, and as such was doted on and babied by her parents. She lived comfortably for several years, till her grandmother fell gravely ill. During this time, Rowan spent more time with her grandfather than she did with her parents, as they worked to support both the family and foot her grandmother’s medical bills. Sensing the latter’s time was nearly up, relatives she never knew she had returned in droves to pay their respects. Although Rowan’s grandmother managed to survive that difficult period, she passed away soon after.

For the next few years, Rowan’s life carried on comfortably and was remarkably uneventful. At the age of seven, she began to recount afternoon adventures with a companion named Ask. Her grandfather said she had not been around any child of that name, though she had taken to playing by herself in the gardens a lot. Her parents dismissed such accounts as youthful imaginations then, but when these stories persisted into her late childhood, eventually sent her for psychological assessments. Rowan was twelve when her grandfather joined his wife in death and then, she stopped speaking about Ask. Completely.

When she was fifteen, a family friend recommended Second Heaven High as a school of excellence, leading them to the decision to send her little sparrow abroad for the first time. The parting was not without its fair share of tears (of joy and worry from her mother) and harried smiles (from her father), but Rowan? To her, it was all just another one of life’s pleasant surprises.
