Appearance
A round face, blue eyes that are usually half-lidded, and a small, round nose. He's not very expressive, and his default expression is blank-faced and bored, often giving his teachers and peers the mistaken impression that he's not listening. His lips are small and well defined, usually turned down. He has the posture of a taller boy (even though he's not exceptionally tall) in part due to his long limbs, and slouches when standing. (If anime:) His dark blue (nearly black) hair is cropped short and curls slightly inward against his cheeks, his bangs covering his right eye. (If RL:) His hair is dark, cropped short, and ragged, as he lets his mother cut it. Outside of uniform, he still wears fairly formal clothes for a boy his age, preferring solid colors and long cuts. Most of these clothes are slightly shabby, or in a few places threadbare.
History
Caspar was the accidental result of a relationship during his mother's last year of AHS (term for Austrian high school, think you wiki!). She and the father planned to marry to hide the nature of the pregnancy from their strictly religous parents, but at the last moment, Caspar's father disappeared, leaving only a hastily written apology. Miriam was forced to keep the child by her parents but raised him on her own. Four years later, unhappy, she left Salzburg with her son to move to Bristol, England, where a friend there had offered her a well-paying job. It wasn't until she arrived that she learned that the job offer had fallen through, and it soon enough she was dependent on her parents for money, though she refused to return to Austria.
Miriam was extremely unsuccessful in keeping a job, partially due to ill-luck and partially to her own work ethic, and throughout Caspar's youth she often relied on the financial support of her boyfriends, though she could never keep them long either. The account her parents gave her for Caspar's education she drained in under a year. Her son learned as he grew older that in order to get a good education he would have to forge it for himself, and through the encouragement of his teachers and a favorite priest at the church he still attended (alone, his mother renounced her faith), he studied hard and performed well. In his second year of middle school he started working under the table to help support himself and his mother, who still had trouble holding jobs and tended to spend more money than they could afford. What little he was able to earn was gone quickly, and balancing both school and a job put a great strain on him. He was extremely worried he would test poorly as a result.
Despite his anxiety, he applied for many scholarships for private upper schools, and when (to his surprise) he was given one for a boarding school in Schubert, his grandparents donated money to help him and his mother move from Bristol to a small house in Strauss (they chose this location in hopes the slightly more retail-based city would give Miriam more job opportunities). He's currently wary of what this new school will bring, though he is (extremely guiltily) relieved he will be living away from his mother, despite plans to check on her as much as possible.
Personality
Keywords: Quiet, boring, listless, broody, distant, proud, and unapologetic.
Quiet and usually distant to the point of emotional lethargy, most of his peers find Caspar either boring or a bit unsettling. He tends to answer questions in either one-word answers or soft hums ("Mm."), and talks little about himself. Despite his emotional distance, he's very loyal and protective, particularly of his mother. He's an attentive listener and has a very good memory. Although not shy, he very rarely speaks without being spoken to and will almost never initiate a relationship with someone he doesn't know. Because of this and his quiet nature, he's had very few friends over the years. He's also exceedingly sensitive about a few things (unknown to most!), mainly his slight femininity and his lack of money. He has a great deal of pride.
Despite working hard in school, Caspar really has no passion for learning, and instead more of a drive to obtain it so he can move on to higher things.
