Sonar Errors and Workarounds
From Sonar
Information about errors, crashes and other problems with Cakewalk's SONAR DAW software, and ways to deal with them.
Error Messages
Unable to save entire recording. The audio disk may be full.
This error seems to have little or nothing to do with the amount of free space on the audio drive. In fact, users with up to 30 GB of free space have run into it. It is apparently a sort of general error message that Sonar gives under a series of as-yet undetermined circumstances.
Possible work-arounds
- Delete the picture cache
- Defragment the offending disk
- Resave the entire project in a different folder, make sure to copy the project's audio data to the new folder
Crashes
Most crashes are caused by hardware problems and device drivers — many, many people use SONAR on a regular basis and have found it to be a stable trustworthy program — so if you are getting crashes, take the following steps.
- Uncheck 'Automatic restart' in the System Properties→Advanced→Startup and Recovery so you can see the blue-screen-of-death rather than getting a reboot
- Carefully consider what has just changed in your system: what new hardware and/or software have you loaded recently. You'd be surprised how much software gets loaded as device drivers. AntiVirus scanners are the worst offenders
- Update the device drivers on all hardware
- Check Control Panel → Administrative Tools → Event Viewer for System Errors
