Error Messages
Unable to save entire recording. The audio disk may be full.
This error seems to have little or nothing to do with the amount of free space on the audio drive. In fact, users with up to 30 GB of free space have run into it. It is apparently a sort of general error message that Sonar gives under a series of as-yet undetermined circumstances.
Possible work-arounds
- Delete the picture cache
- Defragment the offending disk
- Resave the entire project in a different folder, making sure to copy the project's audio data to the new folder
- Go to Tools → Audio Options → Advanced and make sure the Data Directory is pointing to the proper path. If you've recently reinstalled Cakewalk, this may be incorrect and you'll have to edit it now.
- In the Aud.ini file, change DiskRecBufferSize from the default 64 to 128 or even up to 512.
- This error message may sometimes be due to high CPU usage, even if the SONAR CPU meter doesn't indicate that this is happening. Try reducing CPU usage by freezing or archiving tracks, disabling plug-ins, turning off virtual instruments, etc.
Crashes
Most crashes are caused by hardware problems and device drivers — many, many people use SONAR on a regular basis and have found it to be a stable trustworthy program — so if you are getting crashes, take the following steps.
- Uncheck 'Automatic restart' in the System Properties → Advanced → Startup and Recovery so you can see the blue-screen-of-death rather than getting a reboot
- Carefully consider what has just changed in your system: what new hardware and/or software have you loaded recently. You'd be surprised how much software gets loaded as device drivers. AntiVirus scanners are the worst offenders
- Update the device drivers on all hardware
- Check Control Panel → Administrative Tools → Event Viewer for System Errors
