Congolese People's Navy
From Roach Busters
The Congolese People's Navy (French: Marine Populaire Congolais) is the maritime agency of the Congolese military. The navy has 1,500 members, of whom 1/3 are naval infantry. The navy also has a small aviation element. Due to the relatively small size of the country's Atlantic coast (206 km), Lake Tanganyika is the largest body of water that the navy patrols; hence, its primary mission is controlling illegal entry into the country. The navy also patrols lakes and rivers and conducts anti-smuggling patrols and search-and-rescue missions. The navy has bases in the following places: Madingo-Kayes, Pointe-Noire, Brazzaville, Banana, Boma, Matadi, Kinshasa, and Kalemie, (on Lake Tanganyika).
