4th ranking general in Riscana, Torgil Ropten is perhaps the most unusual among the five. He was born in a wintry town in the northwestern quarter of Riscana, descendant of a long line of half-ogre mercenaries. Torgil however sought a more honest life, and grew tired of seeing his homeland constantly assailed from his giant kin to the north. Despite having difficulties with the language of the humans, he was able to enlist in the military, and spent quite some time as a member of the Cold Knights. Though he was the only Cold Knight in the order's history to go horseless the entirety of his service (They couldn't find a horse able to carry him) his immense strength, knowledge of the giant's language, and cunning secured his place in the ranks. He acted as interpreter for many of the Giant-Riscana treaties, and helped establish a shaky peace between the two kingdoms.

The northern border secured, he was scouted by the northguard to assist with the Leyandran front. Wanting to continue to serve his country and disliking having to keep up with calvary, Ropten agreed to join the northguard and was given a role as a captain. Ropten stood out among the lines, it was hard for him not to, standing nearly 3 feet above the average soldier. Just his presence on the flanks was often enough to intimidate the enemy, and his prowess in battle far outstripped even the general at the time. Soldiers serving under Ropten felt safe, since enemy units were known to swerve away from him on sight. When the previous general fell to a Banato ambush on his way back from the capital, Ropten was an easy choice to take the reigns.

Ropten has served as the Northguard's general now for twenty-three years, despite his difficulties communicating, Ropten remains a solid anchor that is very popular among his men. The northguard has become the fastest growing of the Riscanan regiments since Ropten took over, and continues to prosper.
