Introduction

Artor are the dominant species of Alastok, and are as intelligent as humans. Although their dominant society does not properly understand or use magic, this is not due to inferior intellect. It is merely a societal trait.

Physical Traits

Bone Structure

Artor share the same basic structure as humans - two arms, two legs, torso, head, et cetera. However, unlike humans, their skeleton is located almost on the outside of their body, only shielded by a thin (about a half inch) layer of cartilage. The skeletal structure is far more durable to typical methods of attack than that of a human.

Another unusual trait is that they lack jawbones in the form humans use. Since their bone structure is so unusual, their jaw is actually located outside their mouth, and they tear tiny bits of food from their meal until it is completely consumed. They are incapable of chewing to the extent of an animal from Terr

Organs

Artor's eyes are multifaceted, which does slightly improve vision range, but also hurts it in terms of focus. This is why Artor forms of permanent language are so large and esoteric - they cannot detect smaller objects and complexity is required for their language.

Much like the human appendix, Artors have an organ which shows no actual use. This is called the "Maclos", and has uses which are unknown. The Maclos is typically removed upon birth.

Mental Patterns

Pattern Recognition

Artor pattern recognition is typically best with numbers, rather than colors or movements. They are far better at memorizing the patterns of numbers and determining the next one in a series than they are at predicting the movement patterns of an enemy. This trait seems slightly odd to many mages, since numbers serve little purpose in evolution.

Social Structure

Artor social structure is generally based around a tightly knit group, which does not have a particular leader. It may have a figurehead, but the figurehead serves only to supply a minor uniting role, and does not really control or sway the group in any major way. Most villages of Artor are, for this reason, small (up to fifty members) anarchist areas.
