Draft Terms and Conditions for using Open Context

Note: We invite your input in shaping these terms can conditions.

Welcome to Open ContextOpen Context, an online service of the Alexandria Archive Institute, a nonprofit corporation. Your use of Open Context will be subject to the terms of this Terms of Service Agreement (TOS). The TOS may change from time to time. Use of service after a change will subject you to the new terms. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THESE TERMS DO NOT USE THE SERVICE.

Open Context is a searchable resource that recognizes the importance of authorship in scholarship. Unless explicitly indicated, the content in Open Context is NOT in the public domain. Contributors to Open Context own copyright to the content they contribute. Contributors license their content for certain uses. By using Open Context, you agree to the licensing conditions that contributors impose on their content. By using Open Context you also agree to treat the content presented here as scholarly, and agree to properly cite and attribute authors for their scholarly contributions. Failure to do so violates professional ethics and may violate copyright law.

NOTE: Some Open Context contributors may want to ensure that they are first to disseminate some of their content through more traditional scholarly channels. By using Open Context, you agree not to publish or otherwise disseminate content marked as “DO NOT PUBLISH” in professional scholarly venues (journals, monographs, edited volumes, conference presentations, conference proceedings, etc.) without the explicit written permission of the content owners.

Use of Open Context means you agree not to post any content that (1) is obscene, abusive, threatening to others, or in violation of any law; or (2) infringes the copyright, trademark rights, or other intellectual property right of other parties.

You will be solely responsible for all content that you post on the Open Context. Open Context, its sponsors, developers, volunteers, and hosts are not liable for any judgments, damages, and costs (including attorney's fees) that arise out of or are related to the content that you post.

NOTE: While using Open Context, you may encounter content relating to the documentation and analysis of human remains. Open Context requires that the providers of such content abide by professional ethical standards regarding the presentation and dissemination of potentially sensitive types of documentation. If you believe that some content is inappropriate for presentation and dissemination through Open Context, please contact (contact@alexandriaarchive.org) and we will take down the material pending review.

Open Context and its sponsors reserve the right to monitor content any posted on its forum, and to modify or remove any postings that they deem to be abusive, defamatory, in breach of scholarly ethical codes, in violation of third party intellectual property rights or otherwise inappropriate for Open Context.
