Thomas Alexander Mayfield
March 26th, 1963 - April 8th, 1998
Thomas had a childlike air to him -- he had a fascination and curiosity towards Muggles and their technology (although he rarely got said items to work), he could find humor in almost any situation, and laughed at things others deemed immature. As a result, he loved being around children. He was outgoing, loved to talk, socialize, and make friends, although he disliked stuffy parties. He was the type to wear his heart on his sleeve; his feelings overruled his thoughts, and that played a role in most of his major decisions. Generally, he was honest and had little trouble saying what was on his mind, but spared honesty if said honesty would hurt someone's feelings. Overall, Thomas was friendly, easygoing, and uncomplicated -- although he was born into wealth, he didn't think having money made him better than anyone else. He is eternally optimistic and cheerful; it takes a whole lot to get him down (or keep him down for long).
Strengths: Thomas excelled in Defense Against the Dark Arts -- it was his favorite class, but he also did fairly well in Charms. Personality-wise, he was confident and self-assured, and although he wasn't the studious sort, was very driven when it came to becoming an Auror, and even in his other goals. He was friendly to everyone, regardless of social class or blood status, and would go out of his way to make someone laugh. Thomas was passionate -- about his job, about his beliefs, about those he loved and would have given his life for them, defending them no matter the cost. Although he was immature at times, he was dedicated to providing the best life possible for his family.
Weaknesses: Magically, he did horribly in History of Magic, mainly because he didn't have the attention span for it and thought it was boring. He fell asleep in class sometimes, and the same thing would have happened in Astronomy as well if they weren't up and moving about part of the time. Personality-wise, he often acted before he thought, and rushed into things without planning ahead. As a consequence, he had a tendency to run his mouth which landed him into either a big deal of trouble or very awkward situations. Also, he had a tendency to be immature -- instead of letting someone who had wronged him go, he'd respond with a childish insult or by pranking them. When he got angry or frustrated, he lost his temper, yelled, and acted rashly. At times, he was too trusting and chose to believe the best of people, especially those he loved.
Fears: Most of all, Thomas feared losing the people he loved, which was why he fought so hard to protect them. As for the more physical, he was afraid of snakes but tried very hard to hide it (how fortunate for him that he wasn't a Slytherin >.>).
History
Thomas was born to Lionel and Abigail Mayfield on March 26th, 1963, in Southampton. He was the oldest of three children, and had a younger brother, Dylan, as well as a younger sister, Kylie. His parents were neutral in regards to the war, but attended the parties of some of the more elitist families as a means to ensure the safety of themselves and their children. Thomas didn't like these parties and often acted out at them, or would find some outlandish way to entertain himself. While he was publically admonished for this, his parents would just sigh and shake their heads at him when they got home.
When he got to Hogwarts, he was sorted into Gryffindor. There, he met one of his best friends, Andrew Jones, and later, the two of them started hanging out with Walter Monroe, a Ravenclaw. Though Corina Newbury was in his year, and had a known reputation for being an elitist, he didn't really talk to her because they normally ran in different social circles. Not until his seventh year, when they were randomly paired together in class, did they actually talk. She was one of the few elitists he never tried to annoy (for the simple reason that she was attractive), but surprisingly, they got along and started talking more often. He eventually got her to drop her elitist ways (or so he thought), and they began dating midway through their seventh year.
Ever since he first got into Hogwarts, he had the wish to become an Auror, out of his desire to protect others. He was never the academic type, but once he learned that five Es were needed for his job, he worked as hard as he could to obtain them. As a result, the grades in his other classes dropped, but Thomas was successful, went into training, becoming an Auror at the age of 21.
Corina and Thomas continued to date after Hogwarts, and married on July 7th, 1984; they found a house in Portsmouth so that Corina could still be close to her family. Their first and only child, Colin, was born in 1988, and Thomas was quite the loving and proud father. When he wasn't working, Thomas liked to spend as much time as he could with his son -- he'd take him on trips, show him Muggle things, played games with him, and so on. Thomas also worked to get Colin, then very shy and very much a pushover, to be more assertive, but nothing came of his attempts until later.
He was married to Corina for nearly 14 years, until one night, he overheard a conversation between Corina and her sister in which he discovered that Corina was a Death Eater. Two weeks of his life were spent trying to turn her from her ways, until one night, after a mission, he encountered Corina in a dark alleyway in Hogsmeade and was killed on April 8th, 1998.
Significant Relationships
Thomas was close with most of his family members. His parents saw him as somewhat rebellious, because of his refusal to conform with wealthy pureblood society (his parents weren't elitists, but they wanted to fit in with them to avoid getting killed). Secretly, they were proud of him, especially when he became an auror. He often fought playfully and competitively with his brother Dylan, and the two of them would often gang up on their younger sister, Kylie. Thomas wasn't really close with Kylie when she was younger because of their clashing ideals, but as the two got older, their friendship got stronger. He adored his wife Corina, and would have done almost anything for her and their son, Colin.
His two best friends in school were Andrew Jones and Walter Monroe. Andrew was his co-conspirator, and the two of them were often involved in all sorts of hijinks, pranks, and things gone horribly wrong. To balance out the craziness of the other two, Walter was the more sensible of the trio, and would always bring Thomas back down to earth. He was also good friends with Vincent Amherst.
In general, Thomas disliked the elitists and would try his best to annoy the hell out of them. One particular elitist was Thomas Richards, whom he despised from the very day he set foot in Hogwarts.
