Things I have done to get my laptop to work properly with Ubuntu.


Things that have been done (ninth installation)

  1. sudo apt-get install broadcom-sta-common


Things that have been done (eigth installation)

  1. Downloaded iso image
  2. Created install USB pen from ubuntu using the "create startup disc" functionality
  3. Installed Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat from USB
  4. Attached a network cable
  5. Installed firmware for the wireless network as suggested by the "Additional drivers" program.
  6. Unplugged network cable and connected to the local wifi network
  7. Installed the available updates
  8. Tried to play an mp3 file, and installed the suggested codecs
    sudo apt-get install aptitude kubuntu-desktop mc htop kdirstat chromium-browser powertop

  1. Installed Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope from USB
  2. Installed firmware for my wireless network using System -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers
    sudo apt-get install mc inkscape xournal mnemosyne vim-gtk htop kubuntu-desktop kdirstat git-core gnuplot-x11 texlive-latex-extra
  3. Installed Adobe Flash Player via Firefox
  4. Added the medibuntu repository [1]
    sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/jaunty.list --output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list
    sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install medibuntu-keyring && sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install w32codecs
    sudo apt-get install kubuntu-restricted-extras
  5. Installed firefox addon NoScript [2]
    sudo apt-get install opencv-doc python-opencv texlive-science
    sudo apt-get install qtoctave


Things that have been done (sixth installation)

  1. Installed Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex from CD)
  2. Installed firmware for my wireless network using System -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers
  3. Installed adobe flash player and mediaplayer connectivity in Firefox.
  4. Added the mediubuntu repository
    sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/intrepid.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list
    sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install medibuntu-keyring && sudo apt-get update
  5. Installed the following packages
    apt-get install kile mc vlc inkscape skype texlive-latex-extra xournal mnemosyne subversion vim-gtk htop knoda octave dolphin kubuntu-desktop kdirstat python-tk imagej wine texlive-extra-utils openoffice-org-base hugin gphoto2 ufraw gimp-ufraw

  1. Installed Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron from CD)
  2. Installed firmware for my wireless network using System -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers
  3. Installed the following packages
    apt-get install kile knoda xournal mnemosyne inkscape amarok vlc vim-gnome kde4 kphotoalbum mozilla-plugin-vlc subversion mc htop
  4. Added the medibuntu repository [3]
  5. Installed the following packages
    apt-get install skype dvipng sun-java6-plugin texlive-latex-extra texlive-latex-recommended akregator synce-multisync-plugin imagemagick
  6. Tried to install MediaPlayerConnectivity [4] in Firefox, but that failed.

  1. Installed Ubuntu 7.10RC (Gutsy gibbon from CD)

Ting der er gjort (tredje installation)

  1. Installeret Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn fra CD)
  2. Installeret sikkerhedsopdateringer
  3. Tilpasset skaermoploesningen vha. at installere pakken "915resolution"
    apt-get install 915resolution
  4. Installeret foelgende
    Kphotoalbum, sun java 5.0 runtime, htop, sun java 5.0 plugin, touchpad, inkscape, amarok, kile, kpdf, gvim, subversion, mc, vlc
  5. Rodet med traadloest netvaerk
    echo "blacklist bcm43xx" >> /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
    installeret Windows wireless drivers
  6. Aktiveret Desktop Effects (under System -> Preferences -> Desktop Effects)
  7. Skiftet til kubuntu
    apt-get install kubuntu-desktop
  8. Tilfoejet et synaptic device i xorg.conf
    apt-get install tetex-extra
    apt-get install openssh-server
  9. Installeret kwifimanager
    apt-get install knoda, xournal
  10. Installeret noget vpn ting ...

Ting der er gjort (anden installation)

  1. Installeret Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper Drake fra CD)
  2. Installeret sikkerhedsopdateringer
  3. Opgraderet til Edgy Eft
    gksu "update-manager -c"
  4. Aktiveret "universe" vha. synaptic
  5. Tilpasset skaermoploesningen vha. at installere pakken "915resolution"
    apt-get install 915resolution
  6. Installeret en raekke programmer vha. "Programmer" -> "Tilfoej / Fjern"
    KSudoku, digiKam, Amarok, Inkscape, KimDaBa, Wifi-radar,
    Kile, KSeg Geometry Sketchpad, Htop, KPDF,
    Sun Java 5.0 Runtime, Sun Java 5.0 Plugin
  7. Installeret vim-gnome vha. synaptic
  8. Tilsluttet en "Wacom Graphire 3" tablet
    Devicet virker med det samme naar kablet saettes i, men mappingen fra devicet til skaermen er forkert. Jeg proever at benytte beskrivelse fra [5]
    sudo apt-get install wacom-tools
    Rettet "/dev/wacom" til "/dev/input/wacom" i filen "/etc/X11/xorg.conf"
  9. Installeret "Media player connectivity" (firefox extension)
    sudo apt-get install mplayer
  10. Installeret forskellige codecs
    sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg gstreamer0.10-gl gstreamer0.10-plugins-base
    gstreamer0.10-plugins-good gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-multiverse
    gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse libxine-extracodecs w32codecs
    sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop
    sudo apt-get install imagemagick tetex-extra kdvi dvipng kphotoalbum
  11. Installeret mnemosyne [6]
    sudo apt-get install subversion gnuplot-x11 mc
    sudo apt-get install linux-686 linux-headers-686 linux-image-686
  12. Rodet med traadloest netvaerk
    sudo apt-get install ndiswrapper-common ndiswrapper-utils-1.8

  13. Installeret xournal [7]

  14. Indsat en linie i en config fil til gphoto2, se [8]
    sudo apt-get install kpowersave
  15. Installeret TexText extension til Inkscape [9]
    sudo apt-get install pstoedit skencil
  16. Installeret CurlFtpFs version 0.9 [10]

Ting der er gjort (foerste installation)

  1. Installeret Ubuntu 06.04 (Dapper Drake) fra CD
  2. Tilpasset skaermoploesningen vha. at installere pakken "915resolution"
    apt-get install 915resolution
  3. Installeret Kubuntu vha. apg-get
  4. Compileret ndiswrapper vha. guiden fra [11]
    Det traadloese netvaerk virker dog endnu ikke.
    Hentet ndiswrapper-1.23 og udpakket det
    sudo make
    sudo make install
    wget ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R102318.EXE
    sudo ndiswrapper -i /home/midtiby/.wine/drive_c/dell/drivers/R102318/DRIVER/bcmwl5.inf
    sudo route add default gw 192.168.0.1
  5. Installeret java til firefox
    Valgt "Linux (self-extracting file)" fra [12] og flyttet filen til /usr/local
    cd /usr/local
    sudo ./jre-1_5_0_06-linux-i586.bin
    cd /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins/
    sudo ln -s /usr/local/jre1.5.0_06/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so .
  6. Tilsluttet en "Wacom Graphire 3" tablet

    sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-wacom wacom-tools
