Putnam, Rex
From Lane Co Oregon
In 1915, Springfield High School put together its first football team, the Springfield High Millers, which distinguished itself by losing every game that first season despite the help of a student, Rex Putnam, who had graduated the previous spring but came back to school to lend the team a hand. He later went on to become Oregon superintendent of public instruction. [1] Eric Jones, "A History quiz for the fun of it," Springfield News, March 13, 1985, 2C.
